It was recess. Sora and me were sitting alone in the classroom and chatting. We had so much catching up to do! But after a while, Jun Kirada also came inside. It seemed like he had a new book; a different one than the one he had this morning. It was obvious that he was a fast reader.

He nodded at me after he realized I was looking at him, probably saying hi this way. I smiled and nodded back. Slowly but surely he lifted his eyes away from mine and started reading.

“Would you like me to come over to your house today?” Sora asked me, bringing my attention back to him.

“Sure,” I said, still smiling.

“Maybe you should ask your parents first.”

“I doubt they’ll have anything against you.”

“I hope so…”

“You worry too much.”

He grinned. “Maybe I do…”

But he had all the reason to worry. After school, when Dad came to pick me up, he kept glaring at Sora and wouldn’t let him in.

“I got my voice back, Dad,” I said, hoping I would clear the mood up.

“You can talk?!” he exclaimed.

“Yes, thanks to Sora.”

“But didn’t you lose your voice because of him in the first place?”

I glared at Dad. Sora grimaced.

“It’s alright,” he said, “He has the reason to react like that. I just remembered I had something I had to do. I’ll see you tomorrow, Kumi-chan.”

I frowned and nodded. That was the most clichéd excuse I had ever heard. “I’m sorry…”

“Don’t worry about it. Please excuse me, sir.”

He bowed, turned around and left. I could only stare helplessly at his back. I felt like I was losing him all over again, even though I knew he had to go home eventually.

After Sora left, I glared at Dad again.

“I’m glad you’re back to normal,” he said.

“It doesn’t seem like it,” I replied coldly, “More importantly, what is wrong with you? Why did you treat Sora like that?”

“As I said, he was the one that made you lose your voice. I only want the best for you, Kumi-chan. I never would’ve thought you would actually forgive him.”

“Well, I did. And if I can, so can you.”

Dad didn’t reply. He just drove away.

Mom had the same reaction as Dad after finding out that I regained my voice. The only difference was that she also cried. I had to wait until she was done before I could tell her about Sora. Unlike Dad, she didn’t get mad, but she did react strangely; she frowned at him.

“Is there something wrong?” I asked.

“Nothing’s wrong,” Mom said.

“Normally when someone says nothing’s wrong something is always wrong.”

“It’s best if we tell her,” Dad told Mom, “she will find out sooner or later anyway.’

“Find what out?” I asked.

A deep silence fell. Mom looked from me to Dad and I felt absolutely clueless.

“Can someone tell me what’s going on here?” My patience was starting to wear off.
