simon wasn't sleeping, he was nowhere near the brink of slumber.

yet somehow his body was in a zero power mode, swept away by the promise of rest. it irked him, being awake inside of his sleeping body, but he was admittedly grateful.

he had been too hard on his body, willing it to withstand the need for food, sleep and other necessities that he needed to function. maybe if he had treated it right, maybe he wouldn't be sleeping right now.

from what he could tell, after passing out he was taken to a hospital room where they were attempting to give him the rest that he needed. but simon didn't want to be asleep at all - he wanted to be with his boyfriend.

even now in his peaceful state, he still couldn't comprehend josh's awakening. he heard a doctor say it was a 'blessed miracle' that he had managed to survive. simon was not prepared to have to turn josh's life support off, but he was most definitely not ready for that.

through the shock however, there was happiness. happiness that he was finally awake, happiness that he could finally return and things would go back to normal.

but even as he was thinking those words, simon could feel a knot tighten itself in his stomach. he wasn't sure quite why, but he felt as if something was off.

he wondered why; why would he be having these feelings? why would he think that something was off? nothing was off at all. in fact, everything was right. josh was awake after months of deep slumber, he was alive, and everything was going to plan.

"yeah," simon mumbled to himself through his peaceful state. "everything is okay..."

if only he knew.

if only he knew that when he was going to awake next, his life was going to change again, and not for good.

simon awoke to the sounds of frantic whispers around him, and although he wanted nothing more than to get up and rush to josh's side - curiosity killed the cat and he listened in to try and figure out what they were saying.

"certain things..."

"...how will he react?"

"...unfortunate situation..."

"...forgotten..."

all of this made the worried knot in his stomach tighter.

but deciding that he wasn't pulling any information from the conversation, simon pretended to stir, faking a yawn as he stretched. he blinked multiple times as his eyes adjusted to the light, and silently wondered how he had gotten good at acting all of the sudden.

the whispers ceased, and somebody cleared their throat.

"ah, simon. you're finally awake." a familiar voice greeted, identifying itself as dr flynn.

simon faked a yawn again. "'morning."

he glanced around at his surroundings, discovering that his earlier assumptions were indeed correct and he was in a hospital room. in here was the standard things, himself, dr flynn and another doctor who bit his lip worriedly.

"how long was i asleep for?" simon asked, that being the first question to spring to mind.

"a day, maybe a little less," flynn answered smoothly. "you had definitely overexerted your body; it needed the rest."

simon noted the stiffness in his lower back area, most likely from sleeping in the same position for all of that time. ever since josh was asleep he had been a restless sleeper if he ever laid down for it, rendering it unusual nonetheless.
