Chapter Four

A week had flown by and I hadn't seen Gabe much. My focus has been on my work and nothing else.

Well, okay, I lied. I had been thinking about Gabe too, more than I should have actually. I would never tell him that myself of course, he'd always find a way to make his head grow bigger with his egotistical thoughts. I inwardly chuckled.

He had been on my mind a lot, sometimes I found myself getting angry, sometimes I just let it be, wandering off into my own thoughts. The fact is, I didn't know why I kept thinking about him, his green twinkling eyes and his thick mane of hair.

Maybe it was because I hadn't made a friend here until Gabe, maybe I was lonely and missing the company, and the only company I could recieve was my own thoughts?

Gabe had been so quiet, he hadn't knocked on my door neither has he tried to speak to me. It wasn't as if I missed him or anything, I actually felt quite relieved in a way, but that wasn't the point. It wasn't like him. Since I met him he had been the normal suffocating, big headed guy. I just wondered what had happened to him.

As I was making my way down the stairs which led from the massive building full of classes and people, I noticed Gabe just a couple of meters away from my standing body which shivered lightly from the breeze.

He had his muscled arm wrapped around a thin waist, all snuggled and comforting. The thin waist belonged to a tall, long haired brunette with tanned skin and legs the size of my body. I guess she was gorgeous, in an original way also.

Gabe stood there while the brunette chatted to her friends, her hands waving, twirling and moving about in an elegant way. Gabe sometimes flinched back a touch when her hand got too close to his face.

Suddenly, Gabe's green eyes slowly moved and locked onto mine just as if he could sense me looking. He looked suprised at first, maybe a little happy,I didn't know but his lips turned up into a smirk. God, that damn smirk.

Blushing, I looked to the floor, embarrassed I had been caught. I hope he didn't think anything of it, knowing him I bet he did.

Soon I heard shuffling of feet and the loud clicking of heels. It brought me to look ahead.

"Hey Lucy." Gabe smiled. A dazzling smile which made the brunette scowl in what must have been jealousy. The smile was bright enough to make me feel weak at the knees, yet I was too shocked to do so. He hadn't talked to me all week, as soon as he had this hot piece of arm candy he finally came over to me, to talk to me.

Maybe I was a little hurt that he left me alone for a whole week. He was one of the only closest friends I've made here since I started, he must have known I'd be alone.

"Hey." I whispered, my voice cracking slightly. I coughed, trying to get my voice back to normal.

"This is Kate, Kate this is Lucy." Gabe introduced us. I smiled at Kate, trying to seem polite. To my suprise she did smile back, yet I had no clue wether it was fake or not, I was opting for the fake option.

"So are you two...dating?" I asked out of curiosity.

"Well-"

"Yes." Kate interjected. Her voice was sultry, sexy even. I was jealous. Trust Gabe to land someone like her.

I should have known they were dating, I mean, why would Gabe's arm be around her waist for no reason? But then I always had that voice in the back of my mind telling me he was abit of a player, even though he didn't act like one, he was a sly player and he hid it well.

Something felt weird though. A rock settled low and heavy in my stomach, yet I didn't know what it was. Maybe that sandwhich at the cafeteria was making me ill. I should have known it was sketchy.

"I'm happy for you." I smiled. I didn't want to smile, but I guess I had to really. Gabe smiled back, it didn't look right, but I chose to ignore it.

With a sudden feeling of awkwardness I moved back slightly. I somehow didn't fit in here, I needed to make my way out of this social hole I somehow found myself in. Next to these two I felt so much more different, out of place if you like.

"Right, I'll be off. I hope to see you again, Kate. Bye Gabe." I waved akwardly before walking off and breathing a sigh of relief as soon as I escaped.

Now I felt that sudden emotion of loneliness. I scolded myself for being so stupid. I didn't have to have company be happy, I should learn to love my own...somehow.

I made my way back to my room, flinging on my bed and letting myself drift off into my own dreams. It was still light out and it had only just passed three o'clock yet I somehow needed to sleep, there was nothing better to do.

A rap at the door woke me up with a jolt. My head lifted from the pillow, my hair cascading around me wildly.

My feet set foot on the floor as I got myself up groggily, still in a half awake daze. I opened the door with all the strength I could muster.

"Hey." Gabe smiled from the other side of the door frame. My eyes widened slightly. He looked a little sweaty, worried a little.

"Hey." I croaked. "What's the matter?"

"What took you so long to answer the door?" Gabe asked. I looked at him skeptically.

"I was asleep." I lent against the door frame. A yawn escaped from my mouth. "What's the big deal?"

"I thought you was out somewhere or lost or kidnapped or something, I don't know. It's really late and I didn't think you was home and the worst case possibilities just popped into my head." Gabe rushed out, a little embarrassed with himself. My facial features softened. My heart swelled with affection. Nobody had cared for me like this, especially a friend.

"Thanks for worrying about me." I whispered. Gabe shrugged. "Why did you knock anyway?" I asked. Gabe suddenly smiled.

"Well, I wanted you to make me food. I got a little hungry but I'm out of food so I thought you'd make me some." My features hardened again.

"No I am not making you food, go out and get some." I let out. Gabe smiled wickedly infront of me, leaving me panicking slightly.

He lent across the wall with his ankles crossed over infront of him. His white top was tight against his biceps.

"Okay, I'll do that, but you're coming with me."

"What?" I spluttered.

"You're coming out for food with me."

"No Gabe, I don't want to." I groaned.

"Yes you are and I'm not taking no for an answer." He said with an amused twinkle in his eye.

"No I just want to sleep." I moaned. He chuckled. "Shutup and leave."

"Leave? I'm not even in your room yet." He stated. I narrowed my eyes further.

"Fine." Just as I was about to slam the door, his foot stood infront of it, blocking it and preventing it from colliding with the door frame.

"That's not happening today." Gabe tutted. I growled in annoyance.

"My God,Gabe!" I nearly yelled.

"Yes?" He looked so unaffected it distracted me further. "So will you come?"

"Oh you're asking me this time?"

"Well simple questions may persuade you to come." My eyebrows furrowed.

"Why don't you just ask your girlfriend?" I spat. Gabe smiled, widely.

"Are you jealous?"

I spluttered, "no!"

"Lucy, seriously, are you jealous?"

"No. No, no, no!" I chanted. Most definitely not. I was not jealous, not one bit.

"I can see straight through you, Lucy. Look at me." He commanded. My eyes snapped to his. I gave in.

Those green eyes were piercing. I was truly convinced he could see straight into my soul.

This couldn't happen.

"Your eyes always betray you, love."
