Chapter 7
"Gabe! That's cheating!" I yelled while standing up abruptly and throwing my cards to the floor.
"How is that cheating?" Gabe smirked. I threw a card at his face.
"I saw you looking!" He shrugged and picked the card up off the floor. He then flicked the card back at my face. Even a simple game of cards has turned into a battlefield.
"You're a cheat!" I pointed to him. "Cheat, cheat, cheat," I chanted. Gabe stood up slowly, a small smile playing on his lips.
He made his way over to me, his arms out ready to grab me. I squealed before running off in the opposite direction.
"Get back here!" Gabe shouted playfully.
"No, cheat!" I shouted back. I ran to the small table and stood there with excitement running through my veins.
"Get here now," Gabe smirked while standing on the opposite side. I couldn't move. I giggled.
"Go away," I said. Gabe's eyebrow arched. He shook his head before making his way towards me, I was rooted to the spot, I didn't want to move.
Gabe suddenly put his arms out, as if he was going to pull me into a hug, suddenly, his hands went to my sides as he began tickling me. I shrieked, screamed and giggled. I tried prying his hands away from my flesh, but he was just too strong.
"Get off!" I screamed. "Please!" Tears were running down my cheeks, it tickled so much. Gabe suddenly stopped with a look of worry on his face.
"Are you crying? Did I hurt you?" He asked worriedly. I shook my head, still trying to recover.
"No, Gabe, stop worrying," I laughed. Gabe's features softened. He chuckled.
"I wasn't really worried," he stated.
"Don't lie," I pinched his cheeks before pushing him away and diving onto the sofa. Gabe sat himself next to me.
I felt comfortable, safe and happy. I loved his company, whether I liked to admit it or not.
Sarcastic, annoying and always wearing a smirk, that was Gabe, and I'm suddenly ready to announce us as friends, however much that pained me.
"Penny for your thoughts?" I shook my head.
"I'm not thinking of anything," I smiled reassuringly.
"Well, okay," he smiled. "Want to go out and do something adventurous?" He asked mishcheviously. I shook my head.
"I'd rather watch a film to be honest," I replied. Gabe groaned.
"Come on, let's do something fun,"
"Your kind of fun is doing something idiotic," I said while rolling my eyes and pushing myself further into the sofa.
"Come on, Luce!" He begged. I shook my head again.
"No, do it on your own if you want to go out that bad," he huffed. "Don't huff at me, Gabe, I don't want to go out,"
"You're so stubborn," I shrugged.
"I don't care, look, go out by all means, I'm not stopping you, I'm just not going out, I don't want to and I won't," I put my foot down, I wasn't going to succumb to every demand, that just wasn't me. He'll learn that soon.
He sat there in silence for a few seconds with his arms crossed and a frown laid upon his face. He huffed, puffed and sighed at every chance he got.
"Gabe," I got his attention. "Shut up,"
The slightest noise coming from his mouth made me the slightest bit angrier as the seconds went by.
"Gabe," I warned.
"What?" Was all he answered, I chose to ignore him.
Looking at the walls and having to endure the noises coming from Gabe made me want to cry with boredom and anger.
"Oh for Christ sake, Gabe!" I hissed. "Fine I'll go out with you!" I all but shouted angrily.
Gabe shot up from his seat with excited eyes.
"You'll have the best night ever, Lucy!" He beamed before pulling my off the sofa and taking me to the door. "Get a coat, you need to keep warm," he demanded while throwing my coat and scarf at me. I obliged.
I was pissed off at the simple fact that I caved in once again. My stubbornness was fading and I couldn't cope with it. Things needed to change. I was already regretting going out with him.
Once I was all wrapped up, Gabe and I made our way outside. The wind was cold and bitter, I was thankful Gabe demanded I put a coat on. I could feel the wind leaving goosebumps along my skin already.
"What a nice night," Gabe muttered to himself. I looked at him stupidly.
"It's cold, Gabe. Not exactly a nice night," I scoffed. Gabe wrapped his arm around my shoulders possessively. His warm body instantly warmed mine just like a warm fire on a cold, winters night.
"Better?" He asked. I nodded my head. My heart thawed at how much he cared, supposedly.
"Much,"
We walked past many buildings, shops and restaurants, the restaurants giving out aromas of garlic and herbs.
"Want to do something fun?"
"Not really," I mumbled. Gabe snickered.
"Of course you do!" He chirped happily. He was always happy, it sickened me sometimes.
Gabe grabbed my hand as he led me to a metal fence. He laid his foot into one of the gaps, let go of my hand and pulled himself over before jumping onto the floor the opposite side. I gasped.
"Gabe! Get out of there!" I hissed.
"Come on, jump over,"
"I am not jumping over there,"
"Don't be a baby, just climb over, I'm here to capture you if you fall," he smirked. I laid my hands on my hips.
"In all honesty, I'm not worried about falling and I definitely do not want to give you the satisfaction of being my hero," I said. "If you don't mind I'm going, you can either come with or I'll be forced to walk home on my own, I am not climbing that flimsy thing," I stomped childishly. Gabe laughed, this wasn't funny, not one bit.
"You're scared,"
"Scared?" I spluttered. "I am not scared!" I replied harshly.
"Why won't you climb over then?" Gabe asked with an arched brow.
"Because I don't want to, we can get into trouble," I stated sensibly.
"Exactly, you're scared,"
"I am not scared!" I yelled. "I'll show you," I gritted before putting my foot into the gap and jumping over the fence just as Gabe did. I was wobbly and my balance was awful. I was regretting this already.
My foot faltered and the next thing I knew I was falling down. I landed into a strong pair of arms, pillowing my fall and slowing down my beating heart.
"Told you," he smirked arrogantly. I scoffed.
"Put me down," I demanded. He did as he was told, my feet landed onto the floor and I finally got a hold of myself.
"Let's go," he said before pulling me onto a massive field. The grass was dry, luckily, as Gabe dumped himself onto the floor and patted the spot next to him. I sat down with a thunderous look.
"Luce?"
"What?" I grumbled.
"I'm glad we're okay," I smiled as my features softened.
I didn't know how we could go from being at each others throats to talking like normal friends in just a few seconds, but I did know I liked it this way.
"Me too," I let out softly. "Me too,"
