A tremendous howl rang out into the night, shattering windows. A deafening silence followed suit. The air seemed to thicken with tension. Another large paw formed and hit the ground as a massive tail brushed through the trees, knocking over a bunch of them. The moon loomed closer than usual in the sky, giving the appearance of falling to the earth. Striking silver streaks raced through the sky as another howl whipped up a strong wind. A silvery flash of light lit up in the near distance, causing a silver sheen to fall over the moon. A blast of silver mist exploded from the source of the light and quickly spread over the ground. The large black, still forming, mass turned its head to the side, eyeing the silver light. It opened its jaws in a massive toothy grin. A line of thick saliva dangled from its teeth and slowly dripped towards the ground. Another massive howl rang out into the night, the large beast raised its head, temporarily blocking out the enlarged moon.
"What is that?!" Levi yelled over the howls.
All of the inhabitants of the Forest dorm, save Bryn, were gathering out in the woods, staring up at the large forming black mass.
"I am pretty sure that is Fenrir. The last of the seals has broken. That was what that light was," Wren replied grimly, looking up at the massive shadowy wolf.
"What do we do now?" Caldur asked franticly.
They only stared up at Fenrir, as his final paw crashed on to the ground. A strong blast of wind halved the surrounding trees and the boys went flying across the ground.
"The only way to save the moon god is to pledge your loyalty," Loki said as he stood in the shadows observing Fenrir. His arms crossed over his chest as he leaned up against a tree.
The five of them turned towards Loki, surprised.
"You. What are you doing here?" Wren demanded.
"I could ask the same to you. Shouldn't you be with the moon god?" Loki asked, looking towards Wren.
"What did you mean pledge your loyalty?" Levi asked.
"If you are the real seals, then it will come naturally. Did you really think that I would tell you how?" Loki stated slyly. "Good old Odin made sure that the seals would know what to do. All you need to do is use your brains."
The bright light of the moon was suddenly shrouded in darkness as large heavy clouds formed overhead. The ground shook as the large wolf took a step. The ground cracked open under the weight of its paw. Brilliant flames leapt up from the earth, surrounding the paw. Steam rose up from the ground that surrounds the crater.
"We need to hurry!" yelled Levi as the wind picked up, the tree branches thrashing roughly in the air. The flames billowing through across the ground, quickly swallowing forestry in its path.
"I'm thinking, I'm thinking!" Wren yelled back. He ran a hand through his hair, letting out a frustrated groan. "I can't think of anything!"
"Bryn, is that you?" asked Caldur, uncertainty laced his voice.
Wren glances up at Caldur's words and stared at a figure moving through the trees towards them.
"Ha, ha. So, there you are, moon god," a creepy voice laughed from above the trees. Fenrir glanced down at the figure, his red eyes glowing hungrily.
Lightning crackled, illuminating the figure. Startling silver eyes glowed brightly and faded. A silver like aura surrounded the girl as she stepped out of the trees and into the blazing clearing. Long deep violet hair swirled around her, creating an almost hazy look.
"Bryn, stay back," Wren said, as he ran to stand in front of me. He pushed me behind him and held his arm out in front of me, trying to protect me. He faltered for a moment, as a voice seemed to enter his mind. Straightening back up he declared clearly; "Spirit of the moon. Protector of the night. I, the red seal of love, hail thy sword."
A deep red light glowed from beneath his feet and slowly surged towards me. Caldur followed after, getting the same feeling that Wren had.
"Spirit of the moon. Protector of the night. I, the violet seal of harmony, hail thy sword," stated Caldur.
A deep violet light sprang up from around Caldur and moved towards me. The other soon followed suit, each one repeating what the voice seemed to hiss in their heads.
"Spirit of the moon. Protector of the night. I, the turquoise seal of loyalty, hail thy sword," said Levi.
A blueish light surrounded me coming from Levi's direction.
"Spirit of the moon. Protector of the night. I, the silver seal of magic, hail thy sword," said Rei.
Silver light snaked across the ground and joined the other colors.
"Spirit of the moon. Protector of the night. I, the black seal of darkness, hail thy sword," stated Zain.
A velvety black shadow slowly swam to merge with the other colors beneath my feet. They swirled together, creating a temporary blinding light. The glowing magic formed together to create the iridescent shape of a sword in front of the me. Surprised, I grab what seems to be the hilt, and pull. A glowing silver blade emerges from the iridescent glow. Pearls inlayed the blade and strange runes are inscribed into the softly glowing metal, just below the dark oak handle. Five different colored stones are placed deep within the hilt, each a color representing a seal. I gasped as I felt power surge through my hands. The broadsword glinted dangerously as if it thirsted for Fenrir's blood.
"Tunglskin. It has been centuries since I have set my eyes on that blade," Loki murmured as he glanced closely at the blade. "Guess, it is my turn now," he said gleefully as he reached behind him and pulled a pitch-black blade out from behind him. He held the black flaming blade in front of him, showing it off. As the black flames calmed down, gold colored flames snaked across the black blade, etching themselves forever into the metal. Black tassels hung off of the blade and danced in the wind.
"Svartreldr," I said softly, reading the runes that were inscribed on it.
"Right you are. Such a smart moon god," Loki said, giggling slightly. "For the time being, what do you say we work together, Moon god, to rid of this beast?"
"Do you humans really think that you can destroy me?" Fenrir roared, his deep voice thundered throughout the night.
"No, but the power of two gods can send you right back to Odin," Loki stated as he raised his blade to the great wolf and charged to him.
I raised my blade and uncertainly raced after Loki. Both of our blades met in Fenrir's chest, sending red and silver to blaze through the wolf. Fenrir howled in pain and tried to shake himself free from our blades. But he failed, and he started to disintegrate into tiny glittering black particles that seemed to dissolve into the air. Cheers erupted into the night as the last of Fenrir dissolved into nothingness. The huge moon slowly shrank back to its original size and I felt a burning sensation on the back of my neck.
"The seals have been replaced," Wren sighed from behind me.
I glanced back at him and smiled in relief.
It's finally over. I thought as I glanced across the burnt and broken land. This is going to take a while to clean up.
Multiple suns and moons rise and fall, along with a sea of blood.
Those who fall will be greeted by Valhalla.
But those whom still stand, be warned of the jaws of the Great Wolf.
Authors note: Tunglskin is Old Norse for moonlight and Svartreldr is Old Norse for black flames.
