Pacifica run as fast as she could. The hot tears falling from eyes and the darkness around made difficult for her to see.
They say if you don't know where you're going, then it doesn't matter which way you take.
Pacifica run into the woods, trying to not feel her body harmed by the unknown things she was running into.
The woods were dark and cold, but at least there she didn't had to pretend.
She run until she felt safe, then she brought her knees close to her body, burying her head into her arms. She thought, now that she was alone, she would have been able to let herself go, be able to truly realize what happened, but still, her mind was completely lost.
Raindrops were falling trough the leafs, tickling her neck.
She was aware she was lost. Maybe, she thought, she was going to die in the woods, alone. Still, she didn't care. She had been alone all her life.
Everything was silent. She could hear only the rain and the creepy sound of the wind between the trees.
She started to feel tired, eyes closing to the darkness, letting herself silently crying to sleep against one of the trees.
She didn't know how much time passed until the darkness suddenly faded away. A bright light met her eyes, obliging her to open them up.
"Mmm"
"Pacifica?"
She tried to see where the voice came from, eyes still blurry from the bright light. The boy came closer, making her able to see him.
Messy hair, big green eyes, stupid pinetree hat.
"Pacifica?"
He run into her, posing his flashlight to the ground.
"Are you alright?"He sat close to her, she could feel his breath, the only warm thing around them, besides her tears.
"Pacifica?"
"Go away"
He looked confused for a moment, then he shook his head, firmly.
"No way. Something's wrong with you, and if you don't want to tell me that's fine but there's no way I'm letting you here alone"
She was so shocked she didn't even bother about his hand cupping her cheek. In fact, she actually enjoyed it. It gave her a weird feeling in her stomach that warmed her up.
The rain came harder, his hair was completely soaked, and she was shivering.
Silence embraced them as Dipper wrapped his arms around her waist.
His grip was tight but soft, and she slowly started to lean into his touch, leaning her head on his chest, hearing his heartbeat."Come home with me"
He said softly to her."Uh?"
Dipper moved her soaked bangs out of her eyes.
"You're completely soaked. If you don't dry yourself you'll catch a cold"She buried her head in his chest a little more.
"I don't care""Look, I would take you back home. Really. But it looks to me you don't want to go home, right?"
Pacifica closed her eyes, trying not to cry. She failed.
"That's not my home"Dipper wiped away her tears with his thumb.
"Then come home with me. Just for tonight"She didn't know if it was the fact she was shivering for cold, the way he was caressing her hair, or that any place looked better that the manor to her, she just slowly nodded, and let Dipper place his stupid but surprising warm vest around her shoulders, take her hand in his and walk firmly out of the woods, clearing the way with his flashlight.
They walked around the woods, and Pacifica started questioning how in the world could he know the right way back to the shack if all the trees and rocks looked exactly the same.
But, as she discovered, Dipper wasn't an ordinary boy.
Leaving the woods, she could clearly see the shack through the flashlight. As they kept walking, she found herself gazing at him definitely more than she should have.
"Why are you doing this?"
Dipper stopped, gazing back at her "What do you mean?"
She bite her lip, thankful that the dark could hide her blush.
"I mean, I wasn't exactly nice to you"
She admitted shyly.
"I treated you awfully. You technically saved me"That awkward sensation in her stomach came back to her as Dipper approached to her and looked into her eyes. They stayed there, staring at each other, only a few inches separating them, for a something like forever. Dipper finally broke the silence, still gazing her.
"You're my friend" he said.
"And I'll always be there for you"She didn't know if it was the fact she was shivering from the coldness of the night and desperately needed some warmth, or that the butterflies inside her seemed to have turn into fireworks, she just pulled Dipper into the most tight, sweet and impulsive hug she has ever given.
And she definitely didn't know what could have made Dipper hug her back, but feeling his arms awkwardly wrapping her, now knowing that somebody finally would have returned her hugs, she buried her head in Dipper's chest, laughing.
Dipper laughed as well, keeping her close to him.Laughing, leaning against Dipper's body, Pacifica realized she had found her home.
