Brooklyn's POV:
I continue to stare at my reflection in the shiny hardwood floor. The words to explain myself escape my brain and leave me utterly silent.
I hear mom shift in front of me.
"Brooklyn" she states in a forceful tone.
"I asked you a question"
At this point I am not only staring at the floor, but also aggressively playing with my hands. Can you tell I feel guilty?
I feel Theo touch my shoulder from behind and finally look up at him with pleading eyes.
"Go on" he said in an encouraging way.
I sigh and look back at mom, who at this point is giving me a death glare.
"Mom" I start in a quiet voice.
"I know you told me to stay at the table, but I got bored and went outside for fresh air that's all"
After giving my lame excuse, I see my mom's eyebrows furrow further.
"That's all?" She questions me with anger.
"Brooklyn we had no idea where you were or what had happened. You could have gotten hurt or someone could have taken you"
I see her eyes soften at the last part.
"Baby....I don't know what I would do if you were taken from me"
Mom's eyes start to get glassy as she finishes her sentence. I have never felt like more of a jerk than I do in this moment.
"Mom.." I begin to say before I am cut off by father.
"Brooklyn" he yells as he grabs my shoulders.
"Where have you been? We've been worried sick!"
My eyes can't help but snap between my parents.  Why are they treating me like this? I'm not a two year old anymore.
I can feel the anger rise up through my chest. I felt guilty a moment ago, but now I feel absolutely no remorse. I clench my teeth and throw my father's hands off of my shoulders.
"I just went outside, whats the big deal?" I yell through my teeth.
Mom looks taken a back for a second; but I can see the anger instantly consume her.
"Brooklyn Jocelyn! You will not talk to your father like that! Am I understood?" She practically yells.
I lost it from that point.
"If you would stop treating me like a baby we wouldn't have this problem! I'm not a little girl anymore. I don't need to be watched 24/7, I don't need to have a bodyguard and I don't need to be babied!"
I have never yelled so loud in my life. Everybody at the venue stopped and turned around for a moment until going back to what they were doing.
My dad's mouth hung agape, while my mom was red with anger. At this point I was shaking and it only got worse when my stepped forward.
"Brooklyn, you are going home now. You will go straight to your room and you will not come out until tomorrow morning when we will discuss your punishment"
"But..." I start
"Not buts!" Mom says he through clenched teeth.
"Theo is taking you home now and that is it young lady"
I can't believe this. I look to my dad for some help, but he seems to be angry now as well.
"Do what your mother says Brooklyn" he says forcefully.
I can't control it anymore and I let out a scream of anger as I whip around and run out of the event. I can hear Theo say something to my parents and then his h act footsteps behind me.
I'm sick of being treated like a two year old and I know my punishment won't help that.
