"Fake people don't surprised me anymore, loyal people do." -Jade Lizbeth
"Why is he just standing there? Is that the new kid?" I frantically searched the cafeteria for somewhere to sit. Max was no where to be seen and the other guys still hadn't forgiven me for quitting. I was alone.
"Harvey!" a girl called from my left. "Come sit with us for a little."
I didn't recognize her but went over anyway. "Claire Portman," she introduced herself, smiling.
"You're...Jake's sister?" I asked, rising quickly, grabbing my tray as I stood.
She grabbed my arm. "Stay." I sat. "I don't mean any harm and neither does Jake. He's...Well he's different if you couldn't tell." I didn't understand what she meant but I nodded anyway. "He can't fit in quite like the others. He thinks you're a great kid Harvey, I just wanted you to know." She released my arm. "You can leave if you want," she whispered.
I shifted, a bit uncomfortable. "No, I can stay." I rearranged my stuff and began to eat. Soon enough, Jake and Johnny came over.
"Hey Mills," Johnny said awkwardly. I nodded. Jake grabbed something from off the table and they both left.
There was a sudden out burst of screams and yells on the other side of the cafeteria. Screams of fear, yells of encouragement. I looked up curiously, trying to see over the crowd of people, everyone seemed to be standing. I finally realized I wasn't going to be able to see what the ruckus was about and relaxed in my seat.
Soon enough, vice principal Fraley came in, along with two officers. They departed the crowd and everyone sat down, disappointed. I got up to put my tray up when I ran into someone.
"Sorry," I muttered, a little ashamed. I was looking down when I noticed it was two people, not one. One, was an officer, I glanced up, curious as to who was involved in the fight. The boy had a bruised jaw and bloodied lip, his hair was wild and he clutched a torn beanie in his hand. I froze, it was Max.
