Anna POV

I walked into the empty house, walking over to the answering machine to see if any messages were left. Pressing the grey circular button a familiar voice rang through, " Hey sweetie, me and your dad will be working late so fix yourself something to eat," my mom said through the machine.

"Mrs.B, it's time for your meeting," I heard from the background, " Alright coming," she responded. "See you soon honey," she said to me ending the message.

I sighed and dropped by bag on the floor as I made my way over to the refrigerator. Opening the double doors I scanned over the shelves looking for something to snack on.

After seeing nothing that looked appetizing I grabbed some juice and retreated to my room to do some homework.

A while later I had finally finished my homework, started my part for the history project and studied for my french test by this time the rumbling of my stomach had become unbareable, I needed to eat. I threw my books to aside and descended down to stairs to the kitchen.

Just then I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket, no ever messages me so I knew it was Michael.

"Whatcha doing?" I saw on the screen.

" Tryna find something to eat, mama and papa Belle left me to starve once more," I replied.

"Lol, same, let's go get some pizza before I starve to death," he messaged almost immediately.

"Cool, come over we could drive over  to the pizzeria ," I answered.

About ten minutes later the door bell rang I grabbed my car keys and headed to the door to meet the awaiting Michael. We got in my car and drove off.

When we got to the place we saw many students from our school as this was a regular hangout for everyone. Michael and I found a table and sat down to eat our slices.

"Ew," Michael said suddenly as he pulled a long straind of hair from off his pepperoni. I turned up my face at the sight.

He got up from his seat and headed to the cashier.

"Watch where you're going idiot ! " I heard an angry voice say from behind me I looked over my shoulder and noticed Michael had collided with Jacob from our school spilling his pizza on his white shirt.

Jacob POV

I woke up to to a loud 'thud' followed by glass breaking and I knew exactly what it was. I turned to my side and grabbed my phone to check the time, 7pm, I had two hours sleep since returning home. I heard feet running up the stairs and then another thud, "NO STOP !" I heard my mom cry. The same thing night after night after night. She still stayed with him though but I for one lost all respect.

I winced as the I heard  my father's hands beat her over and over. Anger welled up in me I wanted to stop what was happening......but how?My thoughts were soon interrupted by my phone.

"Pizzeria 7:30," the message from Issa read.

I sighed and replied, "Aiight." I needed to get out of here anyways I couldn't take it.

I changed my clothes and decided to climb out the window. I didn't want to witness the turmoil downstairs.

When I arrived at the pizzeria Issa and August were already there along with other guys from the team.

"Ayy, Jake you finally made it," Rick; a guy from the team said calling me over.

I navigated around tables and little crowds of people as I tried to make my way to our table. Just then someone bumped into me spilling pizza over my white tee,
"Watch where you're going idiot ! " I screamed as I pushed him into a table, the anger from before coming back. A girl I had recognised as the one who got hit with the basketball earlier today came rushing over and helping the guy up.

"Dude I'm sorry,it was an accident" he said as he tried to get on his feet.

"I don't care ! If you were watching where you were going it wouldn't have happened," I said angrily as I got in his face.

"Come on man," Rick said holding on my arm pulling me away. I pulled out his grip and attempted to approach the guy once more.

"Hey, get out my restaurant all of you hooligans out !" a short man squeezed his way through the crowd shouting

"Let's go man," Issa said as he grabbed the remainder of the pizza and headed out the door, "We'll go over to my place."

"What got into you man?" August asked concerned, " that sorta anger aint come out because of no shirt."

"Nothing," I said as I sat in the passenger side of Issa"s ride. No one knew what happens at home and they aren't about to either.

I returned home after nine, it was quieter now and my dad's car wasn't in the driveway. I slowly walked in the door to find my mom on her knees sweeping up broken glass. She looked up, her eyes screaming pain, " Oh hi Jake, I didn't know you left," she said as a fake smile creep on her face.

"Yeah, I went out with the guys from the team," I replied as I scanned the newly formed bruises on her face and arms.

"Did you have fun?" she continued. How dare she pretend that this didn't happen.

I went along with it and nodded.

"That's good," she said as she attempted to get on her feet but buckled in pain holding her side she fall back on the floor.

I ran over to assist her, "Why do you let him do this to you?" I said harshly as I lent her a helping hand.

"I'm fine," she said letting me go and heading to the kitchen. She wasn't though, I knew she wanted to leave but she was a housewife and not having her own money she depended on my father and he knew it. That's why he took advantage of her. He didn't care about anything but himself and his image.

Frustrated, I retired to my room for the night.
