"I only have until five to hang out. My grandfather is going to pick me up here." Armin explained to Eren after their meeting ended.
"That's still five hours!" Eren grinned. "Let's go eat first! I'm starving."
He pulled Armin to Mikasa's car by the arm and helped him climb in the back seat.
"How long have you lived in Toronto, Armin?" Mikasa asked
"My whole life." Armin thought for a second. "No...that's not true...I lived in Nova Scotia when I was a baby, but I don't remember that."
"Nova Scotia is the smallest one, isn't it?"
"Second smallest, Eren. Didn't know listen to your mother's little lessons on Canada at all?"
Eren scoffed.
"My mother was from there." Armin explained. "They were going to stay, but money was tight so they went to stay with my grandpa."
"And you've never gone back?" Eren asked.
"No...they died before we could." Armin sighed. "But hey, did you know that in Nova Scotia, you're never more than fifty six kilometres away from the ocean?!"
Eren blinked at Armin from the passenger seat. "Really?"
"I'm sorry...I've just never seen the ocean before so it's just amazing to me that you can always be within driving distance from it."
Eren grinned. "Maybe I'll take you someday."
"Really!!" Armin jumped up and down in his seat and Eren chuckled at him.
"Yeah!"
Mikasa pulled into the parking lot of the pizza place and shit off the car. "We're here." She declared.
The boys got out of the car and walked with her into the pizza shop. They sat down while the ravenette waited in line to order.
"What's it like having a sister?" Armin asked, deeply intrigued. He had been an only child and the idea of having somebody around his age to hang out with all the time.
"It's like having an extra mom." Eren groaned.
"Oh?"
"Yeah. And you know we're not actually related? My dad took her in when her parents died."
Armin looked between the two teens, noticing how differently they looked from each other. "How old was she?"
"She was eight."
"Was she the reason you're in group therapy?"
"Yeah..." Eren sighed. "Well...that's enough of the sad stuff! What kinds of memes are your favourite?" He suddenly morphed into his normal self.
"The classics mostly; Rick Rolling, Pepe, and using gay porn gifs as reaction images."
"I'm more of a new age meme guy myself. I love self hate memes and anything involving Kermit. I won't touch Harambe. That shit is awful."
"Harambe is a scar on humanity's otherwise clean slate."
"True dat."
"We've committed genocide on each other, had limitless wars, oppressed people over things they can't change, and nothing we have ever done has ever been as awful as those godforsaken gorilla memes."
A pizza box fell between the two boys, interrupting their conversation.
"What are you guys talking about?" Mikasa asked, sitting next to her brother.
"Uhhhh....noooothing...." Eren looked away, face red and fingers pawing at the back of his neck.
"So...what else do we have planned for today?" Armin asked as he took a slice of pizza.
"I haven't gotten much of a chance to explore Toronto. Wanna check out some shops and stuff?"
"Sure! To be honest, I haven't been able to do much of that either, even though I've lived around here for a long time."
"It's a big city. That's not surprising. It would take a person years to scope out all these places." Mikasa went back to eating quietly.
They finished up the pizza and all stood.
It was time for the second part of one of the best days of Armin's life!I know it gets annoying when ppl use their hometowns in fanfics like this, but the ocean stuff is the most tragic part of Armin's character and Nova Scotia's motto is "Canada's Ocean Playground" plus that fact about never being far from the sea is like our calling card so you guys just have to tolerate this shit yo!
