A Mages Secret

Chapter 5

"Ok, you know you have a great power right?",Mom asked.
"Yes, but why do I have to have it? Can't I just...not have it?". Mom kept driving while thinking for an answer.
She said we were going to the safest place she knew. Her dad, my grandpa. Great this is going to be so fun.
"Crystal, you can't just get rid of your powers that easily".
"So... I could get rid of them!", I said although I did kind of like them. I just dont want to be a freak or have to keep a secret.
"Why do you want to get rid of your powers?".
"Mom, what if people find out and think I'm a freak or something...?".
"That is why we will live with Grandpa for a while. Don't worry you'll like him.", she said even though she knew I won't.
We sat in silence for what seemed like a lifetime, until we came across a small creepy looking house. It had two small windows up front and an large attic window on the top.
Mom pulled into the driveway and put the car in park. Before we got out I realized that I still had no shoes and my pajamas were still on.
"Mom do you have clothes for me? Or at least shoes?".
"No I left them with your dad, sorry honey. I'm sure that your dad will be here tomorrow. If you ask me he is probably just getting those mages round up and coming this way right now".
"Fine I guess I will be like this until he comes back. Hey, does he know that we're here?".
"Yes I told him telepathically", Mom said. So with nothing more to say or ask we get out and walked up to the front door. Since it was in the middle of the night it was really cold. Man I wish I had shoes right now.
      Mom tries the door. "Its locked", she said.
    "Well can you just knock?", I ask.
     "Sure why not, and wake up Dad. I mean I guess we have to", Mom replied. So while Mom was talking to herself I knocked on the door.
      I stood there not knowing what to do, until I heard foot steps in the house. He fumbled around for a bit, then opened the door.
    "Why, hello Kelly. Come in", he said.
    "Hey Dad, how are you?", Mom said.
    "Oh I'm doing great, and how about you my granddaughter. How are you, I haven't seen you since you were a baby?".
      Oh boy just what I thought he would say. "I'm going fine, thanks", I say instead. Mom walked in so I just fallowed her inside.
     Its was a nice house with a little hallway as you walk in. When you trun to your left there was a living-room. It was really small and didn't have a T.V. Great what do I do now, this is going to be so boring.
    "Well you know where everything is so...", Grandpa said.
     "Yeah, Dad I think we'll just head to bed. Crystal has been up for awhile so...",Mom said quietly.
     "Oh yeah thats fine, just go right up there. I'll be down here for a bit...I can't sleep", he laughed.
     "Ok, goodnight", she said.
     "Goodnight you two".
We went upstairs and found our room and jumped in bed together. I didn't want to sleep alone after what happened back at home.
     After awhile of listening to Mom breath peacefully I feel asleep.
