I was currently on the road to Iowa to pick up my mom and sister with Spencer in the driver seat. After hours of driving we arrived at the hotel that we would be staying in for the week. We walked in and Spencer got us a room. After an elevator ride and a short walk, we arrived at our room. Spence unlocked it and let me in. We put our bags on the floor and looked around the place. It wasn't too small. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small kitchen and dining area. I looked at him and smiled.
"We should head over to the hospital" I said. He nodded and we walked out the door. Thank goodness the hospital that my mom and sister was in was just across the street from our hotel.
We walked into the hospital and up to the front desk.
"Hi we are here for Hailey and Ava Johnson" I told the young looking woman behind the counter. She clicked and typed for a few seconds before looking up at me.
"Room 413" I nodded and grabbed Spencer's hand and dragged him to the elevator.
"Woah Riley calm down" we got into the elevator and pressed number 4.
"How can I calm down Spencer, I haven't seen my mom or my sister since I left back in December. It's May. I can't calm down" I told him as the elevator reached the fourth floor. We walked down the hall until we found room 13. I stopped in front of the door and looked at Spencer. He knocked on the door. We waited a few minutes until a nurse opened the door. She smiled and widened the opening so we could walk in. I heard voices that I haven't heard in awhile.
"No mom you're supposed to do it this way"
"Ok sweetheart I'll fix it"
There were a few seconds of silence.
"Haha mooom you did it wrong again" I laughed quietly.
There was a curtain blocking us so whoever was talking couldn't see us. Me and Spencer peeked around the curtain quietly. I saw my mom and sister trying to make bracelets.
"I hope Riley likes these" Ava said. I smiled.
"I hope she brings Spencer too" she smiled. I stepped around the curtain.
"Well then your in luck" I said and they both looked at me.
"Riley!" Ava shouted and ran toward me. I wrapped my arms around her and held her tight.
"I missed you bug" I whispered into her ear. She pulled away.
"Why do you keep calling me that! I'm not a bug" she said with fake anger. She smiled and hugged me again.
"Ok Ava let me get a chance to hug my daughter" I smiled and Ava pulled away. I looked to my mom and walked up to her. I wrapped my arms around her.
"I missed you mom" I said, tears forming in my eyes. She put her hand on my head.
"It's ok sweetheart I'm right here" she whispered. I pulled away and wiped my tears that had started flowing down my cheeks. I turned to see Ava hugging Spencer. I quickly got out my phone and took a picture. Once I put my phone away I started talking.
"Mom this is my boyfriend, Spencer" he looked up once I said his name and smiled. My mom looked proud.
"Ava talks about you nonstop. Always saying that you helped her get saved. At first I was upset, but then I saw how much happier she was. I realized that something inside her changed. After a few days in the hospital she helped me get saved too" she finished and I looked at her astonished. 'My mom and my sister got saved. Now all that's left is my dad'.
"I wanna go talk to dad" I stated randomly. My mom, Ava, and Spencer looked at me like I was crazy.
"Riley are you crazy!? He's the one that kicked you out, remember?" I looked up at Spencer, who was now in front of me.
"I know, but I just wanna go see him" I said looking back to the floor. He paused for a second.
"Where is he?" He asked looking to my mom.
"At the Iowa county jail, just a few blocks away" she responded. He grabbed my hand.
"Well we'll be right back then" he said and started walking towards the door.
"Spencer I need you to stay here" I said and he looked at me.
"Riley..." he started but I cut him off.
"I need to go talk to him alone. You get them out of the hospital and take them to the hotel. I'll call you when to come pick me up" he nodded and I hugged my mom and Ava goodbye. I walked up to Spencer and kissed his cheek.
"Take good care of them ok?" He just nodded again. I walked out and down to the lobby. I walked alone down the surprisingly empty sidewalk, just thinking to myself. 'What am I going to say? Will he be angry at me? Has he changed? Oh dear God please help me' I prayed that he would help me know what to say.
I walked a couple blocks down the road and to the county jail. I walked and up to the front desk.
"Hi, how can I help you?" The lady behind the counter asked.
"Uh hi, I'm here for Max Johnson" I told her. She typed in her computer and clicked a few things.
"Ah yes, Colby Max Johnson, here he is. Are you Riley?" She asked and looked at me. I nodded in response. She called over a security guard and had him take me to a place where I can talk to my dad. He brought me into this room. This room was a dirty white color with white chairs and a place to speak to the person on the other side of the glass.
I walked towards the glass where my dad stood. I just looked at him. It looked like he hasn't showered in weeks. His hair was all messy, his skin had dirt all over it. He looked pitiful. He was looking down as I walked up to the glass, but looked up when I put my hand on the glass. His eyes grew wide.
"Riley?" He asked. I nodded.
"Hey dad"
