I got back home from shopping with my mother. I mainly got button ups and some slacks with plaid skirts. With a couple dress shoes. I planned on going to a mall as soon as I get to my aunt and uncle's. I would have to either sneak over there or lie. But hey, I'm a teenage girl who happens to live in 1989.
I was tired honestly. I didn't bother at first for dinner for I had a burger at the food court. But when my father called me I literally ran down there.
We were having turkey spaghetti. It was a little awkward sitting at the table. My mom reading a magazine. My father holding today's newspaper. I had to break this awkward silence.
"Uh," my mother looked up at me. "So guys how's life?" I had a cheesy smile plastered on my face. My mother had answered first.
"Fine for me." She smiled putting the magazine down. "Did you know, ms. Patty, the one who lives at the end of the street, lost her husband 2 days ago?" She had a tad bit of sadness and sorrow in her tone of voice.
"Oh really?" My father didn't look up. "Maybe we should send her some flowers."
"Oh that would certainly make her day!" My mother clapped a little. It went silent again.
"Uh, so Dad, how's work?" He put the newspaper down. Surprisingly.
"Oh you know same old same old. I had to lay off a few guys." He put his glasses on. "All the guys are happy I did. And today I finally layed off the IT guy."
"The one who sleeps on the job and caused the power to go out for a week at one time?" I asked.
"Yes, that one." I've never heard my father laugh before. Was this new offer changing him? No, I must being crazy.
"What about you Delilah? Are you excited for tomorrow? " I nearly choked on my spaghetti. This wasn't happening. My father asking me, talking to me?
"Oh honey, chew your food before you swallow." My mother said, not looking up from her magazine.
"Oh, uh, yeah. I look forward to it." I wipe my mouth and chuckle. The rest of dinner consisted of me finishing my food and leaving the table unnoticed.
I checked my bags again to make sure I packed everything. I grabbed my stuffed unicorn I got when Legend with Tom Cruise came out. I hugged it and put it in my suitcase.
I went to sleep thinking about tomorrow I was so excited.
~
I woke up to my mom yelling at me to get up. Rubbing my eyes and shuffling to my closet and then to the bathroom. I took a shower, brushed my teeth and hair, and got dressed.
"Come on Delilah we're leaving now!" I grabbed my suitcase, realizing they had taken my bed and everything else. I stared at the blank walls. I had grown up in the blue paradise. And now I was leaving it. I patted the wall, "I'm sure gonna miss you ol' blue."
I ran down stairs. The house didn't look the same. It was bare, and sad. I sighed, backing out the door and to the car. I got in and we pulled up to the gate.
"Say goodbye to ol' blue." My father said.
"Byee." All three of us said.
Leaving through the gates I stared out the window. Saying goodbye to the all to familiar scenery. I drifted off to Billie Jean.
~
"Delilah" it was soft at first. Rob Lowe said it. I looked at him. He held his hand out. I took it and we ran.
We were on a beach. Possibly Hawaii. We played in the water. And then sat in chairs drinking pina colada. Looking at some Hawaii chick.
"Delilah." He said looking me.
"Yes." I leaning.
"Delilah."
"Yes?" I got closer. We were going to kiss. We looked at each other's lips.
"Diliah wake up." He said.
"Huh?"
"Delilah come on wake up." Someone was shaking me. Rob started getting farther away from me.
"NOOO! ROB!" I reached out to him. But I was pulled back into reality.
"No Rob!" I yelled as I shot up.
"Delilah are you okay?" My mother asked.
"Yeah I'm fine." Rubbing my eyes. "Are we here."
"Yeah we're here come on." I got out and looked at the 2 story house in front of me. I couldn't believe it. I was gonna meet my aunt, uncle and Cousin.
I got out and ran to the door, knocking. The door was opened and I was greeted by a average sized woman. Who's hair was in curlers and she was wearing glasses.
"Hi aunt Kit." I waved. She looked and hugged me.
"Oh it's so nice to see you Delilah. It's been awhile. Since you were what a newborn." I chuckled.
"Oh come on, come in." She left the door open for my parents. "Gus! Anthony and Francine and Delilah are here!" She squeaked a bit.
An older looking man came down the stairs.
"Oh looky here it's Ms. Delilah Waters." He smiled.
"Uncle Gus." I said.
"Welcome back." He hugged me. "It's been awhile. Last time I saw you, you and Bobby weren't even potty trained. " He chuckled. And then surprise, surprise.
"Well if it isn't little miss Hollywood." A boy around my age came down the stairs.
"Bobby?" I said noticing my parents were talking to aunt Kit and uncle Gus.
"The one and only." He threw his arms up. "Hi little cousin." He patted my back. Walking towards the front door.
"Hey mom, dad, I'm going to go get Dinger I'll be back." Bobby opened the door.
"Gus tell him to take Delilah too." Aunt Kit said.
"Uh, well, Bobby why don't you take your cousin with you?" Uncle Gus said.
"Uh, I guess. I'm only gonna get him and come back." Bobby said.
"He's coming for dinner?" Aunt Kit asked Gus.
"I guess." He said. "We have company over."
"Okay, and 1 more won't kill us." He motioned to me, I followed.
