I wake up to my alarm, in the same dress I was wearing yesterday, along with Elliot, who is sleeping next to me. My music is still playing loudly, and I am surprised that I could hear my alarm.

I shift out of bed, and hit my alarm just a little harder than necessary to stop it before quietly leaving my room and walking across the hall to the bathroom.

I flip on the light, and strip off my clothes, and then look straight into the mirror. A girl, sad, with mascara stains around her eyes and slight ones where the tears once flowed show on her cheeks, her ribs were visible for the years of never really eating, her collarbone protruded through her skin, and her stomach was flat. I step back, and so does the girl in the mirror and the girl’s thigh gap makes itself noticeable. She is so skinny, but I never feel skinny. That was my mom’s fault. And that is one of the reasons they fight.

I lock the door, and start the shower giving it a couple seconds to heat up. I look in the mirror once more, and then turn away in disgust.

I step into the warm shower and let the water flow all around me. I rub my eyes in the water, determined to remove all black from my face before I reapply more. I grab the shampoo, and squeeze the bottle, letting out some of the contents onto my hand. I scrub my scalp for a while before I rinse and repeat with conditioner. I quickly rub my body with some soap and then rinse. I shut off the water, and step out into the cold air, snatching the fluffy towel from the rack and wrap it around my body.

I unlock the door and walk to my room, and only to find Elliot still sleeping.

“Elliot!” I yell and he jumps up like a scared cat.

“Elliot the ninja dude is up!” and we both laugh.

“Get out. I gotta get dressed.”

He gets out of my bed slowly and drags his feet to my door before walking to his room next-door.

I close my door and lock it before letting the towel drop to the floor. I put on some underwear and a bra, and then go to my closet, and I swear that the thing is so full that when I open it the angels sing. It is a girl’s heaven.

I pull out a pair of light wash skinny jeans, and then pick out a dark gray Abercrombie shirt. I go back over to my dresser and pull out a random pair of socks that don’t match and put them on, then pull out a pair of black Ugg’s. A pretty outfit for a popular girl. I throw my school backpack over by my door and then grab my cheer bag. I take out the dirty outfit and replace it with a clean one, and then I grab two bottles of water from my mini fridge and put on in my cheer and then the other in my school. I quickly do my make-up in the mirror in my room, just putting on some mascara, a tiny bit of eye-liner, and a hint of blush.

I go downstairs and wait for Elliot, because now, he is my ride for school until my truck gets outta the shop, which my dad says should be soon. He gets downstairs, his shaggy blonde hair hangs wet off of his head, and he shakes it every so often to keep it out of his brown eyes that are an exact replica of my fathers.

“Come on El, let’s go.” I say grabbing him by the wrist and pulling him out the front door yelling behind me, “Bye Daddy!”
