When i got up the next morning i was torn between hiding in the room all day, and finding my father to get these introductions over with. I couldn't imagine any of them liking me, the new comer that barged into their perfect little family.
I figured i should get unpacking out of the way, so i open my suitcase and i pick out a pair of jeans with a plain black tank for the day. Opening what i thought must be the closet door, i discover it's a walk in closet with a mirror on the back of the door. I pull out a few hangers and hang up my remaining pants and shirts, i put everything else in the dresser.
I take a long hot shower to relax my muscles, before i dress for the day. I look at the alarm clock on the night table, it's 8 am,
I'll wait a bit longer before i venture out into the house. Maybe they'll go out again.
"So she's in the guest room?" I can just make out a female voice in the hall.
"That's what dad said. He also said to leave her alone Jenny." A male voice replies.
"But why? Do you think she's horribly mauled? That's what dad said right? She was attacked by some wild animal?"
My heart kicks it into high gear listening to my half brother and sister, the twins Jenny and Jake.
"I don't know, maybe. Should we knock and find out Jen?"
Oh no. Do i answer? Should i hide in the bathroom? Either way, this isn't going to end well.
Knock knock knock
Oh gods, i can't breath.
Knock knock knock.
"Hey now, didn't i tell you kids to leave her alone?" i let out a sigh of relief upon hearing my father voice beyond the door. "i know you two are excited to meet your sister.."
"Half sister" snapped jenny
"Yes half," Sighed my father. "i promise to introduce you later, this is all a big change for Layla. Let's give her a chance to relax a bit, alright?"
"Whatever" they chorused, as i heard them walk away.
Knock knock. "Layla, are you awake in there?"
I opened the door the a rather sullen looking pair of green eyes.
"I'm glad you're awake, would you like to come to breakfast and meet everyone?"
"Sure" I squeaked pulling my hair over my right shoulder to help cover my bandage.
We walked down the stairs in silence, turning left at the bottom, through a short hallway before opening the doors to the dinning room. My father entered first, and i followed meekly behind him, halting all conversations at the table. At the head of the table sat my fathers wife, Melissa. Jake sat on her right, followed by Jenny on his right, and all three of them were just staring at me, in apparent shock. I guess i wasn't what they were expecting.
