"Diamond!" Someone shouted, trying to wake me up. "A few more minutes,Carl." I mumbled, rolling over on my other side. "Get up, Diamond, or we'll be late!" I opened my eyes, seeing White Rabbit ready to go. I sat up, remembering where I was, and stretched. Wait a minute...
Why is it bright and sunny out?
I looked at White Rabbit, eyebrow raised. "I thought you said this place was taken over by darkness?" I said, standing up and brushing dirt and twigs off my sweatshirt. "I said it was BEING taken over by darkness." He replied. "No, you said it was taken over by darkness." I said, knowing where this was heading...
"Diamond, I said being taken over."
"You lie! You said taken over!"
"Being taken!"
"Taken!"
"Diamond! My memories are better than yours! I said being taken!"
I smiled, I know he said that, I was just bored. I quickly put my sweatshirt on, and we were off once again. We continued walking down a path of trees that seemed to have no ending. "Are we almost out?" I asked, wondering how long it would take to get out of here. "Diamond, we just started walking several minutes ago!" White Rabbit said, looking at his pocket watch. "I know, but are we?" I asked again, stuffing my hands inside my sweatshirt pockets. He sighed, and looked ahead. "I believe we're close." Smiling, I looked ahead also, wondering what could possibly be on the other side. I started humming to myself after a few minutes passed, and glanced down at White Rabbit, who was cleaning his pocket watch. Wait.. I looked at the watch a bit closer, and sure enough..
The glass was cracked, and the watch looked a bit dented on one side. "Is that the same watch you threw at the creature?" I asked, curiously. He looked at me, then back at the watch. "Indeed it is." He answered, still cleaning it off. He then closed it and put it back in his front pocket. "Hey, I think we're almost out!" I shouted, running ahead. "Diamond! Wait for me!" White Rabbit shouted, running after me. I ran full speed, and jumped as I past the last tree. Panting, I realized I was standing in a field. Nothing but bright blue skies, beautiful green grass, and dark clouds far off to my left.
Wait what?
I looked over to my left, seeing dark clouds that reminded me of a storm. White Rabbit walked up behind me. Wow, he wasn't kidding. I looked down at him in disbelief. "Is that..?" I asked, not wanting to finish my question. He nodded, and looked straight ahead again. "This way, Diamond." He said, starting to walk ahead. I stood there, staring at the clouds for a bit longer, wondering what I got myself into, then started to follow White Rabbit. The field seemed to never end, reminding me of the forest we were in. I looked up at the normal looking clouds, and decided to play a little game. "Hey, White Rabbit," I said, still looking up at the clouds. "What does that cloud above us look like to you?" He looked up, and thought for a moment. "It looks like.. A snake." He replied. "A snake? That's no snake, that's more like... A winged hedgehog." I replied, tilting my head slightly. "I'm not sure how you see that, but it's a snake." White Rabbit confirmed. We started yet another argue...
"That's no snake! That's a hedgehog!"
"Diamond, that's clearly a snake! Look at it's head!"
"Which cloud are you looking at?"
"The one above us."
"That's a hedgehog, not a snake."
"Diamond, that's indeed a snake. Look at the fangs!"
"What fangs? Look at the lines! that's obviously a hedgehog!"
"Why are you shouting?"
"Why are you blind?"
"I'm not blind! That's a snake!"
"HEDGEHOG!"
"SNAKE!"
"Did someone mention snake?"
We both stopped walking, and slowly looked at each other.
Who said that?
We both quickly turned around, and saw..
No one.
Odd, I thought I heard...
"I'm down here." The voice said, sounding happy. I looked down, and saw...
a King Cobra?
"Whoa!" I yelled, stepping back, looking at the very deadly and venomous creature. His tongue flicked out, and he looked at me. "The name's Sobek, and I'm here to join you fools on this wonderful adventure!" He explained happily, his grin grew wider. White
Rabbit shook his head and sighed, putting a paw on his head. "This is Sobek, the person I wanted you to meet last." White Rabbit frowned, then looked at me. "Oh, White Rabbit! You're so kind! Saving the best person for last!" He joked, then slithered towards me. "Mind lending a hand?" He asked, looking up at me. "Uh, sure." I said, crouching down and putting my left arm out. "My name's Diamond." I introduced myself, and he nodded. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance." He replied, slithering up my arm until his head was on my shoulder. "I wasn't expecting such a beautiful girl, maybe that's why White Rabbit wanted you to meet me last." He said, a devilish grin spread across his face. "He knows I can be quite the CHARMER!" He laughed at his own little joke, I laughed too, when I finally got what he meant. White Rabbit shook his head, and started to walk forward again. "I have a feeling we're going to be good friends!" He said excitedly, looking at me with a smile. It's kinda weird seeing animals here actually having expressions on their faces, but I'm getting quite use to it. As we continued walking, Sobek crept over to my right shoulder, wrapping his body around my neck gently. "You're warm." He giggled, rubbing his head on my shoulder. I rolled my eyes, stroking his smooth head with my finger. He started to fall asleep, slowly closing his eyes, and was soon snoring quietly. We continued walking in silence, the only sound we heard was Sobek's quiet snores and the gentle breeze. "How far is this place anyway?" I asked White Rabbit, who was a bit further ahead. "It might take a while longer to get to the castle." He replied, still staring ahead. I sighed, feeling bored once again. The sun was still high in the sky, so I'm guessing we have quite a long time to get there. I took out my phone, and looked at Sobek, who was still sleeping. Well, I suppose I could take a few pictures of him, I'm sure he won't mind. I positioned the phone so the camera could see him, and took a few pictures, including some with him and I. "Hey, White Rabbit." I said, getting ready to take a picture of him as well. "Yes?" He Turned around to face me. "Smile!" I said, taking a few pictures. He did, but still looked confused. "Thank you." I said, looking and deleting the blurry pictures. "Why?" He asked, stopping and waiting for me to catch up to him. "I was taking pictures of you guys, want to see?" He nodded, and I stopped, bent down, and showed him the pictures. "Can you still take pictures?" He asked, curious. "Of course, want me to take another one?" I asked, getting the camera ready. "Can we both be in it?" He asked. "Sure." I got on one knee, and we positioned ourselves in front of my phone. "Smile!" I said, smiling.
We took a few pictures, and I started looking through the gallery along with White Rabbit. "This is an interesting device." He said, sounding fascinated. "It is, wait a minute.." I looked a bit closer at the pictures. "What's wrong?" He asked, also looking closely at the picture I was looking at. He frowned when he saw a grinning Sobek behind me. "Sobek!" He groaned, but that wasn't what I was looking at.. Although he did photo bomb this picture. I heard him start giggling, but I was too busy looking at the picture. "What is that?" I wondered aloud, looking at the black blur behind us in the sky. "What's what?" They both asked, and I pointed at the blur. "That." Was all I said. White Rabbit looked concerned, and Sobek tilted his head.
*Swoosh*
We all froze, looking at the picture, realizing..
Whatever that was, was probably ABOVE US.
Probably looking for more than just a close up.
"What was that!?" Sobek shouted, looking all around. White Rabbit started to walk forward quickly, I put my phone away and rushed after him.
*Swoosh*
"Run!" White Rabbit shouted, and we both quickly ran ahead, hearing whatever was in the sky close behind us. Sobek was hanging on for dear life, but I felt him slipping as I was running beside White Rabbit. "Diamond! I'm slipping!" He shouted, frightened. I didn't slow down, and I wasn't planning on it. "Just hang on, Sobek." I panted, not wanting to stop. White Rabbit took a sharp turn to the right. "This way! Quickly!" He yelled, heading towards a boulder. Perfect hiding place! I turned right also. "Diamond!" Sobek yelled, flying off and landing on the ground with a light thud. "Sobek!" I stopped, and quickly glanced up, seeing the black thing flying towards us. "Hurry up!" White Rabbit shouted, already behind the boulder. I rushed towards Sobek, picked him up, and wrapped him around my neck, making sure he was hanging on tight. Running faster, I rushed over to where White Rabbit was, and jumped over the smaller stones next to the boulder, landing beside him. We quickly scurried behind it, all if us panting and nervous. White Rabbit peeked his head out of the other side of the boulder, and quickly pulled back, our backs against the wall. Sobek hid inside my sweatshirt, White Rabbit trying to figure out what to do, and I'm still wondering what that thing is. We suddenly heard it flapping it's wings, and talons scrap against the boulder. We had to think quickly...
It was right above us.
