Chapter 28
"I am feeling a lot better I promise." Megan spoke gently into the phone. She was standing by her window looking at the light sprinkle of rain. She never truly appreciated having the ability to stand until she was so injured that she couldn't. Now she wouldn't sit unless she absolutely had to. It felt so great, having the ability to do things by herself. She hated depending on others to take care of her, and while she appreciated it, she was immensely glad that they stopped offering to constantly bring her things.
She laughed at the comment on the other end. "I don't think that will work out quite as well as you imagine it will. Though it is really sweet of you." She paused and listened, then she added. "Okay bye. I will talk to you later." She brought the phone away from her ear and sighed.
"You seem to be in a good mood." A voice came from behind her. She turned to find Luca walking into her room. "Who was that on the phone?" he asked as he closed the space between them.
"Hey!" Megan greeted him, she hadn't seen him in two days.
When Luca got close he placed gentle hands on her face and placed a deep kiss on her lips before gathering her into his arms.
"Hi." He whispered down to her. "I've missed you."
"Me too." She said and wrapped her arms around him. The stood that way for a while, just taking in the warmth of each other.
"This is kind of disgusting." A feminine voice came through, and instantly Megan's face heated up.
Luca chuckled and stepped away from Megan, only to step behind her and wrap his arms across her stomach. He placed his chin on top of her head, and glared at his sister.
"What are you doing here?" He asked her trying to portray an annoyed voice, but failing miserably.
"I came to see Meg before we left back for Europe." Vicky said coming into the room and plopping down on Megan's bed.
"You're leaving already?" Megan asked, feeling disappointed that she didn't get to spend as much time with her as she had hoped.
Vicky nodded and frowned. "Yes, unfortunately my dear husband has to be back at work, and the kids have already missed a lot of school."
"Oh." Megan said and gently tried to move Luca's hands away from around her. Luca looked up at Vicky and squinted.
"You come in and she is already trying to get away from me." He said lightheartedly.
Vicky grinned widely. "Hey, it's not my fault that she likes me better."
"She doesn't." Luca turned to Megan. "Who do you like better Megs?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
Megan blushed at being caught between the siblings. "Oh definitely Vicky." She said in a teasing voice and watched as Luca brought his hand up to his heart.
"Ouch! I guess I will leave you both alone then." He planted a quick kiss on Megan's forehead and headed out the room.
Megan felt her face turn red, at Luca's gesture. She turned towards Vicky and saw her looking back at her intently. She knew that Vicky was assessing her, and felt an embarrassing heat creep up her neck.
"I can't believe you are leaving already." Megan said, trying to keep Vicky from analyzing her.
"I know. So much has happened over such a short period of time though." Vicky's face was full of grief. "Meg, I am so sorry for what happened!"
Megan rushed to her side, and gave her a hug before sitting down right beside her. "It wasn't your fault. You didn't do anything wrong. It was a drunk driver who lost control of his vehicle."
