Max’s POV

I have been itching to finally land a punch on the asshole. Why in the world would he even show his face here, that bastard! I felt the adrenaline rush within me as I threw the punch at him. When I aimed for another, though, Nicole had to stop me. How could I ever ignore her sweet and melodious voice? Moreover, it was something she asked of me.

I mean, I could imagine waking her up in the middle of the night and tearing her nightgown off. Then she will ask of me…

My rage brought me back to the situation in hand.

Oh, would the press just love it if we started the argument here and now. In fact, they’re getting out of their disguises and starting to get nearer. They’re keeping their distance, but they’re still getting closer.

            “We’re leaving. Now.”

“But what about him?” Her voice was hushed and she looked like she just re-killed Michael Jackson. “He’s down and we can’t just run like this and leave the mess behind. The press is going to feast over this! We have to do something!”

I shoved the palm of my hands to the air and raised my eyebrows. “Okay, okay. What do you suggest we do, darling?”

She wasted no time and by the time he finished drawling out his chosen love term, she was already down and checking on Declan. I had to remind myself there were people watching before eating my knuckle.

Damn her caring nature. I don’t even know if there’s ever a possibility of her hating people. “Declan, are you okay?” I had to gulp and swallow as her hand lightly brushed his lower abdomen, which was a little bit higher than where I originally aimed. Luckily, she drew back, which stopped me from trampling the pitiful little ant.

Once he was on his feet I had the palm of my hand against the small of her back and I would actually succeed in bringing her back to the food if it weren’t for him. “Wait. Max, what do we do now?”

“I’m fine,” Declan said. “Now I’m fine. Just know, Nic, you still belong to me.”

Nic snorted and I would’ve laughed from the cuteness of it if it weren’t for my raging mind. “Please. It’s not like we’re married or something. In fact, I’m not even connected to you now.”

“You’re still mine.” I had to drag her away before I landed another brutal punch on him.

“Okay, Nic, explain why the hell I saw him talking to you right outside and how he found you. Also, why you were wearing the ring. I don’t get it! I thought you were over him! What is this, a publicity stunt to correct our engagement? For the moment and hopefully forever you’re mine, Nic! I’m sick of this Declan issue, okay?” She should’ve told me everything that was going on. If she was planning to meet him or not, and the reason she put the ring on. It seemed as if nothing is under my control, even my own little lady. Now I’m going to do the right thing and listen.

After all, that’s always the most gentlemanly thing to do.

Nicole’s POV

I was trembling. Max’s face held some sort of devilish anger and he was acting like such a douche! Attacking me with questions I’m still confused with? It was all in a sudden! But I had to admit when he said I was his ‘for the moment and hopefully forever’, I felt so warm inside. This man… I wonder why he isn’t settled yet.

“Okay. So, when I got the phone call, it turns out its from him. And he was there; he knew where I was. Precisely. He approached me for the ring but he shook my hand first. I didn’t notice, but he slid the ring then. It was his publicity, Max! Believe me. I couldn’t believe it at first, but then you came and wow, all of that happened. That’s all.”

Max took out his wallet and took out a hundred dollar bill. “Okay, so be it. Now let’s go. I’m going to buy you a ring! How exciting!” He squealed the last part with sarcasm. I didn’t know he could squeal. Oh gosh.

“You really don’t need to, Max.”

“Honey, we had our first date just now. I’m sure we had our fair share of moments too. You’re really mine now, I’m pretty sure of that. But if you have any objections…” Damn, this guy’s really straightforward.

            “The feeling’s mutual.”

“Let’s go buy that ring, then.”
