I would've walked out of Svette's beautiful jewel shop if it weren't for the disturbing phone call I received from Declan's father, Mr. Carter. I had to walk out silently from amidst the blooming conversation between Max and his adoptive brother Svette. It was almost amusing to watch.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Carter. Such a convenient time to call your son's ex-fiancé, doesn't it seem? With all due respect, I would like to mention prior to this conversation that I am not interested in having any sort of connection towards you, your son, and your entire family." You go, Nicole!

"Well, good afternoon to you too," he replied with a chuckle.

"Hm. I hope you don't mind me asking, but what or whom gifted you with the urge to call your almost was daughter-in-law?" I was close to scoffing at the end of the sentence. Spit out the bullsh*t Nic! Spit it out!

"I do mind you asking, actually. Let's skip the pleasant part and get right to the point. I want you to give my son a second chance. He is miserable inside, despite what tricks he might have pulled so far." His voice was monotonous, unlike the thousands of times he'd spoken to me with pleasantries and warm welcome.

"Look, your son cheated on me, and not vice versa. If your wife cheated on you, what would your reaction be? Surely two people who have the tiniest spark of feelings towards each other wouldn't and couldn't bear to discover such news. And through a brutal method indeed! You should understand. I acknowledge your intense love towards your son, but I don't think any human being in their right mind would ever repeat a painful memory. He is my past. However happy and warm he'd made me feel in the past is now irrelevant and insignificant. He is no longer a major part of my life. Just a pesky one." BOOM!

"Nicole, stop the smart talk. All I ask of you is to meet my son one time, just one time, and let him have the closure he so desperately needs. If the feelings don't bloom again, then officially cut him out of your life." He was pleading.

"Let me think about this first. I can't think clearly at the moment. Just give me a time and place. It'd be a fifty fifty chance of me showing up, though. Make sure your beloved son knows that."

"Of course, Nicole. I am extremely grateful for you agreeing-no, I mean considering this. What about, say, in your hotel restaurant tomorrow? For dinner at 7." Dammit, he knows I won't be able to get out of the hotel without considering again!"

"Okay. I'll consider."

Why did I feel like I just made a deal with the devil?

Not to mention, the deal was to have dinner with the devil's SPAWN.

Should I tell Max? Duh Nicole, you are NOT one of those dumb girls in novels where you go out with a different guy and your lover thinks that you're cheating on him! Wait, lover? Max is certainly not that. But I should tell him! Considering the five steps he took in the morning, I am confident that he'll react even worse if he catches Declan and me together later on, and having DINNER for goodness sake! Geez.

Definitely telling Max. What baffles me now is how I'm going to have to explain to him everything. "Hey Max, Declan's father wants me to go for dinner tomorrow with Declan in hopes that I fall back in love with him and I leave you." HA! Never going to happen. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.

Sighing, I made a mental note to get Max on his sweet side before breaking the news. He'd definitely say no, but if this meeting with Declan meant closure and Declan going out of my life for good, then that's exactly what I'm going to do.

I frustratedly went back to Svette's and tried on the ring Max picked out for the second time. Damn Max and his easily appreciated beauty as an individual! Our lives are so deeply engaged that even we got legitimately engaged! Even if I were to return to my life before this movie offer with the knowledge of my alternative future, I wouldn't have had anything left I was satisfied with. Look how everything turned out! The only delightful person left in my life was, sad to say, Max. It was rather difficult to admit at first, but his charm was irresistible. Don't tell him I said that.

We walked out of Svette's with serene expressions. Of course, the press were there to make the memory last, but Max didn't mind them much. Well of course, he's going to probably get married with me, and he kind of likes me, I think.

Max did purchase a lot of diamonds now dangling from my neck and wrists, but none of them compared to the frustration weighing heavily on my heart. For the record, I did refuse. Both Svette and Max were extremely adamant on extending my stay in the jewelry shop, and also their lives (quote unquote from Max's charming flirting in the jewelry shop). However, it did bring them joy to discover that I am certainly not a gold digger. They had to force the bracelets on my moving wrists.

"How about dinner, darling?" I gritted through my teeth.

"That'd be great, sweetheart. I am starved!"

Wish me luck.
