CHAPTER EIGHTapologies are hard.
apologising for your own silly behaviour is hard and having to say it to someone who you dislike makes it harder.
it's also hard when another reason for apologising is hurting a friend you care a heck of a lot for.
and that's why hyungwon has found himself pacing back and forth the isles in the library, bottom lip close to bleeding from the vice-like grip his teeth have it in.
sighs keep pouring out of his mouth, so much and so loud that even the librarian told him to shut up or get out. he did actually go to leave only to turn back around because hoseok walked pass with someone. someone who hyungwon recognised to be hyunwoo.
so here he is, in the science fiction section of the library, tugging his hair, biting his lip and repeating in his head over and over again what he wants to say to the two people he has hurt.
thinking of what to say to kihyun was hard but surprisingly, the pacing boy has found that coming up with a somewhat sincere apology for the silver-haired boy is even harder than what he originally thought.
he doesn't even know why he's finding it so hard. he doesn't even know why he's trying so hard.
it's hoseok! a flirtation grease ball with surprisingly really shiny hair, but that's not the point! hyungwon's thoughts kept going back and forth just as his feet seemed to of worn a path into the carpeted floor of the library. every step he took, he found that his thoughts kept slyly trickling off topic and just thinking about the boy he needs the apologise to.
"gosh," another mumbled sigh tumbled pass his red and bitten lips. "why is this impossible? fuck me,"
"gladly,"
a scream escaped from the boy and he stopped pacing. his heart lurched and he found himself slightly shaking from the abrupt intrusion. eyes showcasing his fear with the colour grey, a little bit of purple floating around his iris'.
"hoseok!" was the next words that left his mouth as he whipped around to face him, and to the surprise of the said boy, no profanities followed. only a stuttered question.
"uh-um. w-hat brings you h-here?"
hoseok, slightly bewildered and concerned from how the younger is acting, asked: "are you okay?"
"n-yes. i'm fine. what do you want?" he was quick to answer. his eyes by now shifted back to their natural dark brown.
"uh, okay... anyways, i was looking for you and kihyun said i'd find you here," he rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
"o-oh really? well, here i am. what did you want?" hyungwon was oddly nervous and that made himself confused. what was he so nervous about? a fucking week ago he wanted hoseok to basically drop off the face of the earth and now he feels all weird inside and nervous just talking to him. what happened?
hoseok himself was perplexed by the sudden change in the boy. he didn't know how to feel, he didn't exactly hate it; it was just different.
"he actually came to me after i found out about, you know, that thing," hoseok hinted with a slight nod of his head and two forced winks of what thing he was speaking about, "and he apologised about it... but he said that'd you'd also want to talk to me about it," the confidence seemed to disappear as he muttered out the last few words. he seemed quite anxious but no so much that it was visible to anyone who'd spare a look at the silver-haired boy, just obvious to hyungwon who was paying attention to hoseok's eyes that couldn't seem to stay focused on one thing for more than a second at a time.
"oh, he did? well, uh, i actually do want to apologise," hyungwon shyly muttered.
"really?" hoseok's eyes went wide. half from the tone hyungwon used and half because: does hyungwon actually feel some kind of guilt towards the boy?
"y-yeah," hyungwon cleared his throat, "so, hoseok, i went overboard. i overreacted to your sudden appearance and i," he nearly choked on the word before he got it out, "i am really sorry. please forgive me because i don't even know why i blew up at you. i really am sorry," he lowered his head, trying to hide the embarrassed blush dusting his cheeks. that was such a sucky apology, hyungwon knows that if he looked up, hoseok would be cringing. so he kept his head down until he heard hoseok speak.
"hyungwon, it's okay, really. i understand that i have caused you some stress. honestly, i expected something like that sooner or later. although, i didn't really expect the glowing eyes and being told you're a mythical creature of sorts. kihyun didn't fully explain it, apparently there's a lot he doesn't know either. anyways, i wasn't here to pry about that, even though i am curious about it all and well i, to be honest, am jealous about your glowing eyes-" he started rambling, causing hyungwon's blush to deepen slightly, confusing him further. he quickly forced it away and lifted his head slightly to look at hoseok's face.
he, too, had a slight blush coating his cheeks causing him to look even cuter, accompanied with a small, but sincere, smile.
"but my point is, i accept your apology. and hyungwon, i am also sorry for, well, flirting with you. i see how it makes you uncomfortable so i'll stop and leave you alone," hoseok quickly added. the embarrassment for admitting his flirtatious ways showed on his cheeks as they deepened in colour.
the way hoseok looked so small and awkwardly cute made hyungwon's tummy feel all fuzzy. the feeling was odd and unusual, something he never experienced before, but, he kinda liked it.
why do i like it? and why do i think hoseok looks cute? and why am i stuttering mess over this situation. i just want to go home and sleep.
hoseok, who felt awkward under hyungwon's gaze that held a certain softness to it, felt to the need to speak up once more.
"uh, well. seeming as we've apologised and everything, i guess it's time for me to leave you alone now. i promise no more flirting, i'll just be like one of those background characters that don't get any lines or anything, they kinda just sit there and look like an awkward fish,"
hyungwon, who was stuck in his thoughts, chuckled. just that sound alone made hoseok want to take back what he said about leaving the mythical boy alone for good. he didn't want to do that, his goal in the first place was to become hyungwon's friend, not push him away with unwanted flirting and greasy remarks.
but, hoseok thought, that's just how it is.
he didn't get an answer for some time. the lanky brunette just standing there, soaking in the information and words spoken. hoseok felt like to make this easier he should leave first.
so he did.
the silver-haired boy turned around and exited the science fiction isle. when he almost reached the automatic doors of the library, he heard hyungwon call out.
"wait! hoseok, wait," he quickly caught up. a blush rising up his neck. "well, m-maybe you don't have to leave me alone? u-uh, m-maybe we could be f-friends?"
