I wake up to the sound of voices. I sit up and reach for my phone to check the time. It reads 9:30 am.
I fall back against the pillow and look over at Chris, who is dead asleep. I think whether or not I could make it to the bathroom without anyone noticing me.
I slowly open the door, looking around. I don't see anyone but I hear people talking. Now if I'm lucky I can make it down the hallway. I slowly start down the hall. As I get to the bathroom the door opens and someone familiar walks out.
"Well, look what the cat dragged in." Justin chuckles. "Hey Dez! Long time, no see!"
"Hey, Just!" He gives me a hug.
"I've missed you! Where have you been?"
"Here and there, you know. Missed you too."
"I thought, I'd never see you again!"
"What? Why?"
"Well, you kind of just left with no goodbye."
"Oh, yeah. I'm sorry about that. I was in a bad place." I look down uncomfortably.
"You know Kel- " He stops all of sudden when I look up. "Never mind, I'm glad to see you. I want you to meet someone."
"Um, okay but can I go wash up first?" He laughs.
"Oh, yeah. Sure, sorry." He steps out the way.
"See you in a minute."
After several minutes, teeth brushed and face washed, I step out the bathroom and head towards the living room where I hear laughter.
"Hey Dez! Did we wake you?" Jessa asks.
I sit next to her and notice Justin sitting with his arm around a small girl. She is tan with long black hair.
"Dez, this is Rome, my girlfriend. This is Dez, the ghost in the night." Justin introduces her. She waves, smiles and utters a quiet, "Hi."
"Hey, Rome! Don't believe anything he says about me." She laughs.
"What? Me? Say bad things? Never." Justin, fakes mock surprise and laughs.
The door bell rings and Jessa gets up to get it. I hear a voice and breathe. I didn't realize I was even holding my breathe. Jessa walks in with Nick and a petite girl with multi colored hair and big brown eyes.
"Dez, is that you?"
"Yes, in person!" He rushes over and gives me a hug.
"Where have you been?"
"Here and there."
"Well, I'm glad you're back! " He turns to the girl.
"This is my fiance, Jenna." She throws me off guard by hugging me.
"Omg, Its so nice to finally meet the girl that Kell- " Nick gives her a look and she stops, "Uh, Its really nice to meet you." She smiles.
Why does everyone keep doing that? Like seriously, I can handle hearing about Kellin. I keep quiet, not wanting to spoil the good mood.
"So how's everything been Dez? Tell us, where you been? What do you did?" Nick asked.
"Well, I'm a photographer now. I've been doing photography for some small bands here and there, mostly in Canada though. That's actually where I met my boyfriend, Chris."
If on cue, Chris walks in sleepy eyed, looking cute with his bed head. "Wow! We have a full house." He laughs.
"Speaking of the devil. Guys, this is Chris!" He walks by and shakes their hands as he settles next to me.
"Chris, that's Justin, Rome, Nick and Jenna."
"Hey, man! Nice to meet you." Nick says.
"So, how'd you meet?"
"At Hot Topic, where he is working but Chris is in a band. Actually he's the singer."
"Always have liked them lead singers." Jack says. Jessa hits him. "Ouch, I was joking. Jeez."
"Did someone say lead singer?" Says a famaliar voice. I look over to see Vic, Mike, Raven and some red head I've never seen.
"I knocked but no one answered so i let myself -" Vic stops mid sentence when his eye catches mine.
I feel my heart beat faster as my eyes meet his. Shit! I didn't know he was gonna be here. Breathe, Dez! The whole room seems still and quiet. All eyes are on us.
"DEZZZZZZ!" Yells Raven breaking the silence as she runs over and squeezes me. "Bitch, where have you been?" I laugh, same ole Raven.
"Here and there."
Mike walks over and gives me a hug. "Hey, there!"
I glance at Vic, who is just standing there, staring. I see the girl, beside him, nudge him. He blinks out of the daze he was in and turns to smile at her.
"Hey Dez...um this is Danielle." The girl smiles and waves.
"Hey, Danielle. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to finally meet you." She says. Vic keeps staring.
"Um, I'm gonna get a drink. You want one?" I ask Chris. He nods yes.
I walk to the kitchen and lean on the sink.
"You okay?" I hear Justin ask behind me.
"Oh yeah, just a lot to take in."
"Its cool, I understand that. Do we bother you?"
"No, not at all. Just, you know, I've been gone for a long time and a lot has changed."
"How have you really been, Dez?"
"What do you mean?"
"Look, Jessa didn't want us bringing up the past, but are you okay with being back and seeing certain people? You know, Vic and well, other people that will be at the wedding." There it is, the elephant in the room. Did Jessa really tell everyone not to mention anything? Anger builds up. How dare she?
"Yes, I'm fine with seeing VIC and I know, KELLIN will be there. Yes, I'm fine with seeing them! I'm happy with Chris. A lot happier than I've ever been!"
"Okay, calm down. I was making sure. Looking out for you." He laughs. "Same ole Dez."
Why does everyone keep saying that?
