So we had all agreed a BBQ with drinks was necessary since we were all together. Right now, Rome and I were on our way back because we had volunteered to go get drinks. I had needed to get out of there and asked Rome to come because she looked like she wanted the same.
"So, how'd you meet Justin?" I asked trying to start conversation.
"At a Palaye Royale concert."
"Omg, I love them! I haven't gotten to see them live yet, though."
"They are amazing live!" She exclaims her eyes lighting up, "and they are the sweetest. Well not sweeter than Justin."
I laugh, "Thats true."
We had talked and realized we had a lot in common. For some reason I felt so comfortable and opened up about how I was feeling. I started to feel better knowing I had someone like Rome around. As we pulled in to the driveway, Vic was sitting outside on the phone.
We looked at each other. At least he was on the phone so I won't have to talk to him. We started getting everything from the trunk.
"Ladies, need any help?" We hear that voice I know so well.
"Um, yeah. Sure." I say and hand him a 12 pack of Coronas. He stands there kinda awkwardly.
"How have you been?" he says nervously.
"I've been pretty good, just trying to enjoy life."
"Yeah," he laughed nervously "so, um, you and Chris...he seems nice."
"Hes great! He's helped me through so much and he always knows how—" I stopped quickly realizing I was actually talking to Vic. . "I'm sorry."
"Don't be! I'm glad, you're happy Dez."
"You and um...sorry I forgot her name."
"Danielle. She's pretty amazing herself. We met on a video. Shes a model. I was in a bad place and–"
We both got quiet, neither of us knowing what to say I guess. The silence got more awkward. "Vic, we should probably talk."
"We are talking."
"No! I mean about what happen."
"Look, Dez its okay! I used to be really angry at you but I have learn to accept what happened and why."
"What I did to you was wrong but I did care about you I just—
"Dez, I understand. No need to explain. I know that we had something good but sometimes you can't help who your heart connects with. You and Kellin had something special. You two were really good together. " I looked at Vic and saw he was being sincere. I gained a new respect for him for being able to stand here with me and not hate me.
"I still care a lot about you but I know we are better apart. I'm not good for anyone, Vic."
"Yes, you are. You just need to stop running from your feelings."
We stood there for a minute in silence.
"Well, let's get inside before Danielle sends a search party for me." he laughed.
"Thanks Vic for being so amazing."
"Thats me, Mr Amazing!" he laughed then looked at me seriously "Are you going to be okay seeing Kellin?"
"Yeah, I have Chris now and he's good to me. I think I'll be okay to see him. A lot of time has passed."
"Sometimes time doesn't matter when love is involved. Just remember that!"
