A Hundred Million

I saw a hundred million lights

But not one in focus

They shone so bright that all their colours and shapes

Blurred into one big unintelligible mass

Or the problem was with my eyes

They couldn't hold enough light,

They were too narrow, too grey

And afraid of seeing themselves in the shadows

I need another stanza for all these lights

Another stanza for shining words

Words that are supposed to gather and contain

All those beauties and thieves in the night
