Aduro Academy

Chapter One

After a very long drive through some Montana forest, the enormous campus of Aduro Academy came into view. Despite its size, if I was not aware of it's existence I would not be able to see it. It was enchanted, invisible to any outsiders to the magical world. My aunt was given the job of driving me.

Stopped at the gate for a while, the car moved on to the campus. Outside, the centuries old high school looked like a many decades old cathedral, but bigger. The car stopped in front of the larger of the dorm halls, the driver door opened, and Aunt Demi climbed out. She pulled back my door.

I took a deep breath and slid out. Glancing around, I didn't notice anyone staring. I turned to my aunt, bent over in the trunk. She pulled out my two suitcases and shoulder bag, and messenger bag. Aunt Demi set them on the ground and looked around.

I was fully aware that she wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible. What witch would want to be seen with her vampire-human-witch niece? No one that's who.

"Do you need help finding your room?" she asked handing me an orange envelope.

"Do not believe so," I replied. To avoid looking into her eyes, I studied the envelope. It was folded in half and had many crinkles.

"Then I'll be off," Aunt Demi shut her trunk with a smile. "Call your father, so he knows you're here."

I looked up and nodded. "Goodbye," she hopped into the driver's seat and drove off. I pulled my messenger bag over one shoulder, the other bag on the other. I pulled up the handles and rolled the suitcases behind me, as I walked into the building in front of me.

Most of the campus was enchanted for one purpose or another. But, why enchant a dorm, wouldn't building another make more sense. I opened the envelope and pulled out a paper with a dorm info header. I was in room 27. It was on the first floor and one of the last dorms on the floor. I slipped the paper back into the folder and headed down the hall.

I let out a breath I was unaware I was holding when I found my dorm. I sifted my hand through the folder and pulled out a key. Taking a deep breath, I put the key in and turned it. Nervously, I pushed the door forward. No sound, until the door hit the wall.

The room was simple. There was a desk, dresser, bed, and nightstand on both sides of the room. I noticed three other doors in the room, with a small kitchenette in the corner, and one large bay window partially blocked by a tan curtain on the outer wall. One bed was made with a black comforter atop. The other was just a mattress. That must be mine!

I slipped out of my Uggs and padded over to the bed. Dropping my bags on it, I plopped down.

"Who are you?" a deep voice demanded. I looked up and saw a boy, at least close to my own age.

His flat black hair just covered his grey eyes. The guy had a slight pale complexion but still his appearance was striking. "Who are you?" he repeated, his eyes flashing a blood red and back to grey again.

"Fallon..." I glanced around the dorm and back at him, "this is my room."

The guy looked shocked. Who is this guy? He smirked.

"I apologize for not introducing myself," he uncrossed his arms, "I'm Damon."

"Well Damon, what are you doing here?" I crossed my arms. Damon seemed amused.

"Unfortunately, this is my dorm," he gestured to the other bed, with the black comforter.

"Oh..." I drifted off, uncrossing my arms. My roommate's a guy, that's different.
