a/n: hello my lovelies!! i'm well aware of how long it's been since i posted a one shot here and i am truly sorry for the delay in updates, but hopefully this (fairly long) update will make up for it!! this is probably my favorite one shot i've ever written, i'm extremely proud of it and the little au that's been created in this one shot is my baby and is v v special to me. basically, this au is titled the "delinquent au", i don't really wanna get too much into it but riley and lucas are both a little au in this, but (hopefully) they are still in character, i tried really hard to not make them ooc. enjoy fam!! ily!!

also: zac friar is an oc character that is lucas' brother in this au, and i actually can't take credit for his creation, my good friends korry and ana (both from tumblr) created the character of zac and gave me permission to use him in this story!

The first time he saw her, she was leaning against the cold brick of their high school, her foot pressed against the wall and her fingers holding a cigarette to her pursed lips. He hates those death sticks, but he has never been more jealous of an inanimate object as she brings it between her lips, and he's mesmerized as she blows the smoke away, her lipstick covered lips smiling as she watches the smoke float, up, up, away into the blue sky above.

It didn't take her long to feel his eyes on her and once the smoke had cleared, she swiveled her head to look at him, her mouth falling from a smiling. He couldn't even bring himself to be embarrassed about being caught staring, in fact he dared himself to meet her eyes, a smirk appearing on his face as they looked at each other.

"Can I help you with something?" She asked, cocking her head to the side as she threw the cigarette to the ground and squished it with the heel of her boot. Pushing herself off the wall she strutted towards him, their eyes never breaking contact. "How come I've never seen you around before?" She asked once she was standing directly in front of him, her arms crossed over her chest.

Lucas took a moment to admire her, now that they were only about a foot apart, he was mesmerized by her large brown eyes, her lips were quirked into a small smirk and her eyebrows were furrowed together confusion. He had seen plenty of hot girls before, but she was something else, that's for sure.

"Name's Lucas. I'm new." She considered this before nodding slightly, that seemed to satisfy her question pretty well. He was pleased to see that, most of the girls he had met so far seemed displeased with the lack of information he was willing to share about himself.

"I'm Riley, nice to meet you, Lucas." She smiled softly and Lucas couldn't help but smile as well. It had been a long time since he had felt this comfortable around someone that wasn't his brother and he was a little freaked out considering they had literally just met, but something told him that he had no reason to be freaked.

After a beat of silence, Riley broke their eye contact and looked down at the ground and Lucas cleared his throat, his heart beating rapidly in his chest.

"I should get going, I'll see you round, Lucas." She smirked softly at him and before he could reply she was gone, her long ponytail flying behind her as she practically skipped away from him and back into the high school. Lucas could feel his heart beating in his chest and he had to take a deep breath to get himself under control.

"Shit." He muttered under his breath. He was so fucked.

...

They don't talk for a couple of weeks after their first meeting. Riley gets caught up in her own life, too busy to think about the cute boy that she met on that random Tuesday and Lucas does his best to forget about her, not wanting to get sucked into her orbit.
