a/n: hello pals!!! as promised, there's gonna be an update here every single day this week, so here's day too!! this lil fic takes place in the same universe as chapter 14 "you are the music in me", so lucas is in a band and riley is his girlfriend. but, this takes place prior to that fic timeline wise. it's a little confusing when i try to explain, but just go with me here. anyways, enjoy this fic pals, lemme know what you think!

day two prompt: "hand-holding - we know these kiddos are always holding hands, time to write about it even more"

...

"LUCAS FRIAR CAN'T SEEM TO KEEP HIS 'HANDS' TO HIMSELF"

Riley's mouth dropped slightly as she stared at the headline that was repeated over and over again as she scrolled down her timeline. She had only been awake for about fifteen minutes, but she had snapped to pretty quickly once she saw the headlines that were circling around the web this morning. Not to mention that her notifications were blowing up.

Apparently it was far from unnoticeable that she was the girl holding Lucas Friar's hand.

She was scared to look at what people were saying, people hadn't exactly been nice to her when they found out her and the band were still friends following her breakup with Charlie. So, she figured that news that she was dating another member of Mad Dogs was certainly not going to go over well with their fans.

She was still staring at the headline when her phone rang and interrupted her from her thoughts.

"Hello."

"Morning, sunshine." Riley groaned slightly, falling back on her pillows.

"What do you want, Maya?" Riley asked, running her hand over her face and sighing lightly. Her best friend had been there the previous night and had played a witness to what was now a buzz on the world wide web. She also knew that Maya kept up with gossip, mainly to laugh at it, so she no doubt had also seen the headlines.

"Well someone is grumpy this morning. I just wanted to check on you, pardon me." Riley sighed again. "I'm assuming you saw all the headlines."

"Yeah." Riley sat up in bed, running her fingers through her hair and adjusting her glasses on her nose. She momentarily wished that Lucas was here, they had never spent the night together, but she imagined that he would be helpful in this situation. "How could you tell?"

"Because usually when I call you sunshine in the morning, I'm not being sarcastic." Riley could practically hear her best friend's smirk. "What's so bad about these pictures coming out. Isn't that a good thing, now everyone knows and you and Lucas can be even more sickeningly cute out in public then you already are." Maya snorted slightly and Riley merely rolled her eyes.

"Yeah that part of is great, but..." Riley sighed slightly, thinking about the words that were probably being written about her, and Lucas, on the internet right now. "Maya, what if people hate Lucas because of me." Riley whispered, squeezing her eyes shut and taking a deep breath.

"Riley, what are you talking about?"

"Maya, every single one of their fans hated me because of what happened with Charlie, they blamed me for him leaving the band and I know that they were all pissed at me for even still hanging around the band after what happened." Riley took another breath, trying her hardest not to cry. "They probably hate me even more for dating Lucas, what if they start to hate him because it too."

Riley could hear Maya take a deep breath on the other end of the call and she started twisted her finger in the thread of her blanket. There was absolutely nothing that could happen that would make her willingly break up with Lucas, but the fact that their relationship could hurt him, could hurt the band, wasn't something that was able to stomach.
