...

Lucas felt the exhaustion itch behind his eyes as his chin fell forward in his hand. He took a look around the empty waiting room, sighing as he closed his eyes for a moment, shivered as he felt a yawn overtake his body. It was nearing 2am, and Lucas wanted nothing more than to drudge back to his dorm and go to bed.

But, he was all alone in the clinic and the last thing he wanted was to lose his job because he packed up early, or leave someone needed assistance out in the January cold. So, sighing once more, he pulled his phone from his pocket, flipping through it mindlessly, trying not to focus on how slowly the minutes were ticking by. He had been working the late night shift at the 24 hour clinic every Saturday for almost four whole months yet, he had only seen about three people come through at most in a night. Usually it was drunken classmates who needed a bandaid or students unable to sleep because of the flu, so it was hardly ever anything too exciting.

Tonight, however, Lucas had yet to see anyone so far and was beginning to think tonight would be a wash, when his attention was pulled from his phone to the light twinkling of the bell above the door. His eyes immediately flicked to the direction of the noise and were met with the sight of quite possibly one of the prettiest girls Lucas had ever seen in his life. However, his initial admiration was overwhelmed with concern when he noticed the scar decorating her forehead and the blood that was beginning to dry on the side of her face.

"Hi." She said after a moment, wobbling slightly on her feet. She was dressed to impress, that was for sure, heels adorning her feet and a black dress worn tight around her frame.

"Um, hi." Lucas said, standing from his seat and moving around the counter so he could stand in front of her. With her heels, they were almost identical in height and it was easy for him to examine the cut on her forehead. "What happened?"

The girl didn't answer for a moment and at first Lucas feared that something was wrong, but when he met her eyes, they were wide and her lips were open slightly. She seemed to be looking at him, and he almost felt himself blush under her gaze, which she seemed to notice, judging by the small smirk on her face.

"Who wants to know?" She asked after a moment, her hand reaching up to play with the ends of her long brown hair, which was falling over her shoulders. Lucas couldn't tell if she was flirting with him, or if she was just drunk and wasn't sure what was going on. He really hoped it was the first one.

"I'm Lucas. I work here, I wanna know what happened, so I can fix you up, alright?" He said, lifting his hand to her forehead and ghosting his fingers over her cut. In the unpleasant light of the waiting room it didn't look too deep, and would be easy enough to fix up with stitches, but he wanted to make sure that she didn't hit her head and need a concussion test too.

"Well, hello Lucas." She said, twirling the ends of her hair in her fingers. Lucas cleared his throat awkwardly, it was becoming clearer and clearer to him by the second that she was in fact flirting with him. "I just had a little, incident." She said with a casual shrug of her shoulders. Lucas had to resist the urge to sigh loudly.

"Did you fall?" He asked, hoping that a simpler question would get him the answer he desired. As beautiful as she was and as nervous as her flirting was making him, because she was far too pretty to be flirting with someone like him, he also wanted to do his job.
