...
At the tender age of twelve, Riley Matthews has yet to have her first kiss.
She knows that it isn't that big of a deal, there are plenty of other girls her age that haven't locked lips yet, but she's waiting and the wants the moment to be perfect. Her only problem is that none of the boys in her class have lips that she wants to kiss. Dave's are too chapped, constantly cracked and look unpleasant to touch. Wyatt's are too wet, due to his constant lick lipping and smacking. Farkle's are always moving too fast, she's never able to get a good look at them as he's always spewing words from them at a mile a minute, far too fast for her to keep up with it.
It isn't until she meets Lucas Friar that she knows what perfect lips look like, and she wants nothing more than to kiss them.
...
Riley constantly finds herself staring at his lips. She doesn't mean too, most of the time, but whenever she looks at him, her eyes are drawn to his lips like a magnetic pull. She starts to believe that Lucas Friar's lips are a sweet kind of magic and she's completely under their spell. She's mesmerized by them and she often finds herself struggling to look away.
She's obsessed with the way the corners of his lips will quirk into a smirk when her dad says something amusing, or when he'll take his bottom lip between his teeth when he's concentrating. Riley often finds herself losing her train of thought during their conversations because she's too busy watching his lips move and curl around the words that he's saying.
She dreams night after night about what it must be like to kiss Lucas Friar. She can only imagine how his lips would feel against hers, soft with a firmness to them, they were the perfect shape to kiss and only in her dreams was she able to claim them for herself.
When Farkle almost steals her first kiss, his lips feeling sloppy and far too warm against her chin, and she fears that maybe kissing isn't all she's cracked it up to be. But then, Lucas Friar leans his face close to hers, his lips directly in her eyeline, telling her that someday he wants to kiss her.
And while, her lips are still cold and unkissed, Lucas Friar wants to kiss her and his lips have never looked more inviting.
...
The day that Riley Matthews finally kisses Lucas Friar is the best day of her life.
The minute she falls into his lap, and takes his face in her hands, the overwhelming desire to press her lips against his fills her from the tips of her toes to the very top of her head. And when she does.
Magic.
The moment is short, their lips only touching for the briefest of seconds, but it's the most special moment of her entire life. It was a blink and you miss it kind of moment, but she wanted to capture the moment in a bottle and live in it forever.
It had been better than she could have ever imagined, and she couldn't wait until she could do it again.
...
After their first kiss, Riley becomes even more obsessed with Lucas Friar's lips than she was before. If she thought Lucas' lips were mesmerizing before, it only increased after she knew how magical they truly were. She spent hours just looking at his lips, becoming jealous of pens that he presses against them when he's nervous or confused, wishing that she was a spoon that he would place between them when she watches him from the opposite side of the lunch table.
