Damian's POV:

I stood at the gate of my new high school. I looked across the field and I saw her. Alice was standing with a few other girls...friends maybe?

One of them pushed her down.

OK, maybe not friends...

I walked over as quietly as I could. without a word I stood behind the girl that had pushed Alice. the two other girls had seen me, but she hadn't. the girl to her right spoke.

"Uh, Malory?"

Malory sighed and looked over to the girl.

"what do you want Ava?"

"There's someone behind you."

Malory turned her head. She jumped in surprise when she saw me.

"well, uh, who are you?"

she tried to give me a flirtatious smile, but she ended up looking like she was constipated.

I knew I was, by most peoples standards, good looking. I had my brown hair up in neat spikes, I had blue eyes and a nice face to go along with it all. but honestly, I didn't really care how I looked. the only reason I tried to look good today was in case I met Alice.

I tried to think of a way to get Alice out of this situation without her thinking I was an asshole. I could only think of one.

"sorry to interrupt, I just came to get my girlfriend."

ok...so i still sounded like an asshole...

the three girls looked at each other.

"Alice are you ready to go?"

she looked like I had just asked her to solve the worlds hardest math problem. she was so confused, I just didn't know exactly what she was confused about. Me helping her, or just me noticing her in general, the look on her face said that it didn't happen much.

she got up and slowly walked towards me.

whenever she got close enough, I put my arm around her and walked her away from the three girls. the second we got out of their line of sight she jerked out of my grasp.

"why did you do that?"

"I don't know."

"You look so familiar. have I seen you somewhere before?"

"nope. this is the first time I've ever met you."

"then why would you help me?"

"like I said. I don't know. I just figured you needed a hand.

she didn't look convinced, but she also didn't ask any other questions.

"well, I uh, I guess I'll see you around."

I nodded and she walked off to her first class.
