"Mornin', doods!"
"Hey, Stan. Hey, Ford."

Wendy walked into work with Soos and sat at the cash register, crossing her legs over on top of the counter, hands behind her head.
Soos, on the other hand, picked up his toolbox and shifted the wooden ladder that was against the wall to some empty shelves by the gift shop entrance.

"Good morning, Wendy and Soos" Ford said politely.
Stan, on the other hand, gave a small grunt.
"Whoa, are you two ok? You guys don't look too hot" Wendy remarked, concern in her eyes.
She flicked her phone shut to focus more on her bosses, Soos wobbled on the ladder as he tried to arrange merchandise on the higher shelves.

"Don't worry about us, you two. Stan and I are just...a little under the weather, that's all" Ford lied through his teeth, nudging Stan in the ribs.
"Ow! Uh, I mean ow, my head" Stan groaned, giving a few unconvincing coughs.

Wendy cocked an eyebrow, looking suspicious whereas Soos looked concerned and sympathetic.
"Don't worry, Mr Pineses! We'll take care of things" Soos told them dutifully.
"Thank you, Soos" Stan murmured.
"Hey, where are Mabel and Dipper?" Wendy asked. "Not seen the little monsters all day!"

Ford and Stan felt their stomachs clench and their blood run cold the second Wendy mentioned 'monsters'.
Stan gulped once, loosening his shirt collar.
"Yeeeeaaah, they're just taking a break! They're certainly not hiding in a cave somewhere, why would you even think that?" Stan replied, trying to sound as casual as possible.

For a few moments, the whole shack and forest outside seemed silent.

"Say what now, Mr Pines, dude?" Soos uttered in shock.
"Stanley!" Ford hissed abruptly, both brothers flashing death glares at each other.
"You weren't supposed to say anything!"
"Say anything about what?" Wendy asked, leaping over the counter and walking to stand next to the vending machine.

"Um...."
For once, Ford was lost for words.
He quickly ushered Stanley to the basement, abandoning the conversation.

Leaving behind a very confused Soos and Wendy.
