At the sound of the word "dad", he turned around to face me.

I studied every aspect of his face, each detail. I studied the way the strands of his unruly curled hair fell against his face, I studied each crease on his forehand, I studied his posture and the way he was clearly trying to study me in the same way. I understood why everyone was so shocked when they saw me, the resemblance was truly uncanny.

"14 and a half years in foster care, abandoned at 3 months old, not many friends, lots of trouble at school" He paused for a minute

"How much did I get right?"

"Everything" I said, he was challenging me so I rose to it

"Middle aged, sociopath however often believed to be a psychopath, struggles with human interaction, ego the size of a planet" I heard a few stifled giggles coming from the other side of the room.

He stared at me intently, before raising his eyebrows and turning back to face the window

"You clearly inherited your intelligence and arrogance from me"

"Clearly"

"Sophie Hooper" I held out my hand for him to shake

"Sherlock Holmes" he took my hand

It was then that I had time to take in the apartment, it was strange looking and it smelt very musty. It was odd but I loved it, i had only been here for a few minutes and it already felt like home.

"So Sophie how did you get here?" Asked the lady with short blonde hair, I had forgotten there were other people in the room

"By train" I replied

"And where are you planning on staying?" She asked

"I have a guest room seeing as John no longer lives here, she can stay here" Sherlock piped up to everyone's shock

"Really?" Asked John, a sceptical look spreading across his face

"Are you sure you can handle that Sherlock?" Questioned the short woman who showed me upstairs

"Yes! Why the bloody hell does no one think I can look after my own daughter?" He practically shouted

"Well alright then, where is your guest bedroom before a domestic breaks out?"

I tried not to concentrate on the odd tension in the room as I led myself to my room.

I sat down on the bed and looked around the room. It was a small box room with a single bed in the middle of it, there was also a small bedside table and wardrobe in the corner. The wallpaper was peeling, the carpet was in need of a deep clean and there were cobwebs in the corners however it felt homely, something that I hadn't felt, well, ever...

I had a strange feeling I would be spending a lot of time here...
