Chapter XVII Gawking Girls

NIGHT OF THE FASHION SHOW

As I sit in my makeup chair waiting for my turn for hair and makeup I stared at myself in the mirror. I can't believe that I'm about to fill in for Shelby's top model. I haven't really seen her all afternoon she is to busy with last minute stage design and outfit things. I understood but it made me more anxious. This was the biggest day of my career and no one has once told me it will be alright or to breath. I'm honestly about to freak out really bad. I tried to hide that feeling from everyone though as all the models I was surrounded by were high up professional models. It was very unprofessional to act strange or to freak out. I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of all theses women. My thoughts are interrupted by a tap on my shoulder.

"You have visitors miss" a young man says

I nod and he waves them in. I smiled when I saw Constance walking towards me with open arms. I hugged her tight and then hugged Jared.

"Nice group of women who you are leading here" Jared says with a smirk while looking around the room

"Oh stop it Jared and I'm not leading any of them. Every model has her part and each part is as equally important as the next" I say

"Well well, someone knows her stuff" Jared says teasing me

"Oh Jared stop that" Constance says

I just smile, I loved how Shannon and Jared got along with their mother. Most always it made you laugh. You could really tell they were family and honestly loved one another. I wish I had that good of a relationship with my mother.

"So did Shannon come" I ask anxiously

They both looked at each other then back at me.

"He came yes, but when I told him where we were going he almost immediately knew you would be here and he decided not to come" Jared says sadly

"You look nervous honey. Don't be nervous you'll do a great job" Constance says quickly changing the subject

For that I was grateful, it hurt knowing it would be harder to works thing out with Shannon.

"Thanks" I say with a smile

"Well we will go so you can finish getting ready. Have fun honey and you'll do great" Constance says and hugs me

Jared hugs me next and I smile to both of them before they leave. I was honestly grateful that they came and saw me before the show. It eased my nerves a bit.

"You know Jared Leto" a model asks walking up

Three other women followed her, their eyes sparkling and jaws on the floor.

"Ya I've known him for a while. I stayed with the some during the summer that's all. Nothing big" I say

"Nothing big! Those brothers are really famous" one girl says

"Alright girls aren't you suppose to be getting ready" my sister says walking in

All the girls go back to what they are suppose to be doing.

"Thanks" I say

She hugs me and smiles.

"No problem, you ready to do this" she asks

"Ready as I'll ever be" I say with a weak smile

She smiles back and hugs me.

"Good because it's time to roll" she says and pulls me along

I change into my first outfit as I hear the announcer quiet everyone down. I take a deep breath and walk out when I'm queued. I almost immediately see Shannon, I guess he decided to come after all. I literally almost fall, thank god no one noticed. He held my gaze until he couldn't any longer. On the way back down the runway I didn't look at him at all. While changing I almost started crying but realized I didn't have time for that. I managed to complete the show without crying at all or breaking down even the slightest bit.

"You did great sis" Shelby says hugging me

My parents walk in and so does Constance and Jared. My parents hug me and then Constance and Jared. Everyone congratulates and I just stand there.

"So you're the women who my daughter stayed with, with your son who has caused so many problems for our family. Because of your son my daughter decided to stand up and speak her mind and so did her sister and now I've lost my other daughter" my mother says

Jared got mad almost immediately.

"Mom Constance is very kind and so is her family. Everything I've done has been my choice and it had no influence from anyone else" I say calmly

"What your daughter did was super kind and helpful for my son. I don't like the fact they lied but I appreciate the fact she cared about him enough to do something like that for him" Constance says

"I think it's time for us to leave" my father says

My mom walks away, annoyed. My father sighs and looks at the ground.

"I am deeply sorry for the way my wife is acting. Your sons seems like good men and I believe you have done an excellent job raising them both" my dad says

"Thank you and don't worry about it you have no control over how she acts or what she says" Constance says with a smile

He nods then walks out with my mom. Constance hugs me tightly and smiles.

"You looked beautiful as always" Constance says

"Thanks but at one point I almost fell" I say

"Why" she asks

"I saw Shannon, he held my glaze and I held his. I almost cried" I say sadly

"Shannon will come around eventually he is just being a stubborn boy" Constance says smiling

"I don't know if he will, I've really messed with his mind" I say sadly

"It will be alright"

No sooner than Constance said that Shannon walked in surrounded by a group of girls, all gawking over him. He was smiling and laughing along with them. He saw me but didn't stop or change his behavior at all. I walk out without a word. I couldn't stand to see Shannon acting that way.

I rode home with my sister in silence. I didn't want to talk to anyone or see anyone I just wanted to be left alone. When we reached our hotel I went straight to my room and fell on my bed. What I did to Shannon was awful, but he still didn't have to act the way he did. He didn't have to walk in to where I was followed by a crowd of women and flirt with them like that. It hurt me more than anything to see that and I'm pretty sure he knew it too. I'm also pretty sure he didn't care!
