April 17 of every year marks the day of how American Samoa became a U.S. territory.
In the period of almost 2 days consist of a big festival to celebrate!
My Dad who was born there as a kid said, when he was just a little boy this event occurred right in town center.
I think as of now, he says it is performed at a park where more people can join in.
In the video above is Flag Day of 2013 where my Dad's village (Malaeloa) was performing in the festival. He says it's been about almost 40 years since his village has performed!
He also says that maybe about 2 villages perform every year and they switch off.
It amazes me that my Dad's village hasn't performed in almost over 40 years !
But, the real one that amazes me the most is the highlight part of the festival which is a boat race called the "fautasi"
In the past, I've seen videos on the fautasi race and it's awesome in all honesty.
I hope one day I can get to experience just like everyone does in homeland :)
Malo!
