You saw your other patients for what you knew would be the last time unless you happened to run into them on the streets in the future. You didn't get a chance to speak to Lillian about the plan since you saw her before your conversation with The Joker, but you had devised a way for her to know what was going on.
In your office, you grabbed two medical bags devoid of the equipment and put whatever you needed in the pockets of your lab coat, including a special card. You carried the bags at your sides as you strolled through the hospital as the clock ticked closer to the time you were scheduled to leave.
You passed the guards and avoided questions when you gave them kind and vaguely flirtatious smiles, which left you annoyed when they absolutely fell for them. You wondered for a moment how they could have qualified for a job that required constant vigilance if they let their boners wander off on their own.
You put the handles in one hand once you got to the Possessions Room to dig through your pocket for the key card that allowed you special entrance to certain areas. You swiped it on the pad until the green light shown and then cockily waltzed inside the room. By doing this, you felt a sense of rebelliousness that you hadn't in a long time.
You searched and found the items you were looking for specifically and loaded them into the bags before discreetly making it appear as if nothing had been tampered with in the first place. You leisurely exited the room, swiped the card to lock the door, and checked the time to see that you were right on schedule.
When you turned the corner, you took a breath at the sight of Aaron and Jeremy standing in front of your target cell. Joker would be the only one with guards, so it made the exchange effortless, but you had no intention to cause them any real harm. Gun shots would echo and alert nearby security, and that's the attention you definitely didn't want, therefore testing your ability to incapacitate two grown men without a weapon.
"Hey," you greeted kindly as you approached.
"What brings you down here, Dr. (L/N)?" Aaron asked without a hint of accusation.
You put down the bags and shifted your gaze between them. "I'm not sorry about this."
Swiftly, you lunged at the correctional officers and immediately found the pressure points in their necks, causing the two men to gasp in shock before falling to the ground. You choked back a laugh and snatched the keys from Aaron's pocket to unlock Joker's cell. You swung open the door to see the clown laying on his bed with his arms behind his head. Somehow, you didn't register the danger a completely unchained Joker could pose.
"Let's go," you commanded.
Joker's head shot up as if he didn't believe he heard your voice. "You were serious?" he questioned as he quickly rose to his feet.
"Why the hell would I lie?" you retorted, pivoting out of the room and grappling the bags once more.
"Well, a part of me thought it was a poor ploy to help me," he replied in disgust as he followed.
You tossed one of the bags at Joker, which he caught in front of his chest. "That would make me a terrible doctor," you said and jogged down the hallway. "That's all the stuff you brought here."
"Oh, I like you, Doc." Joker laughed loudly in his own maniacal way.
You ducked down another corridor and it took The Joker only a second to realize where you were.
"Why are we here?" he asked suspiciously.
You smirked as you got to the door with the key still in your hand. "I have to bust out my old friend."
"That wasn't part of the deal!" Joker hissed.
You gave him a sharp look as you twisted the key and opened the steel door. "It is now, and trust me, she might come in handy some day," you stated and spotted the woman inside. "Let's go, Lillian."
"What?" Lillian asked, confused as she approached the door.
"We're busting out of here; come on," you explained, handing her the other bag. "It's your plants and clothes you came with. We don't have much time, so we have to leave now before someone notices what's happening."
You trekked down the hallway once more and instantly heard the words behind you.
"Ivy."
"Joker."
"You guys came to an agreement?" Lillian asked him as you led the way.
"Yeah. I saw a business opportunity and took it," Joker responded. "The real question is, how do you ladies know each other?"
You glanced over your shoulder briefly as Poison Ivy clarified.
"(Y/N) and I go way back," she said. "A couple years before she left to be a doctor, we were friends, then a few months ago, she became my psychologist. Funny how things work out."
Joker didn't respond.
"How do you guys know each other?" you questioned, finally making it to the secret side door of the building.
"All villains have to stay in touch. Wouldn't want our plans to be fucked up by each other," Joker answered.
"Very true," you replied, swiping your card over the pad and pushing on the door after the green light shows. "Freedom awaits."
Just as your feet hit the grass, the alarms started blaring in your ears. This made all three of you speed up and Joker was especially giddy as he cackled toward the sky. You shook your head at his behavior and pointed out your car for them to go to. You slid in to the driver's seat, Joker reluctantly in to the passenger, and Lillian behind Joker.
You revved the engine before recklessly driving from the parking lot and through the gates of Arkham as you shivered from the adrenaline rippling through your veins. They must have figured out you're the one who let out The Joker and Poison Ivy from the security cameras, and that you did it voluntarily. Regret wasn't anywhere in your mind and you basked in the lifestyle.
The turning point inside of you ticked like a bomb and you could feel it explode the closer you got to the dark side of Gotham, saw the wind blow through Lillian's orange locks, and listened to Joker's laughter.
"What the hell are you doing?" you asked as you tried to keep your eyes on the road.
"These scrubs are itchy," Joker defended as he tore off his shirt and pants, then threw the fabric out the window. "Feel free to take a look if you like."
"You're gorgeous," you drawled with a grin as you not-so-subtly glanced at his well-built body.
Lillian rolled her eyes from the backseat and Joker proceeded to, with difficulty, pull on his classic purple and green attire. He also placed his knife collection, big and small, in the pockets of his coat. It was overkill to you, but he wouldn't be Gotham's most dangerous villain if he didn't stock up.
While you drove the miles through and toward your destination, you didn't realize how closely The Joker was watching you. It plagued him as odd why you didn't cower or flinch away from him. It wasn't that you were too insane to care, it was simply pure bravery, and he knew it.
Bravery was perceived as stupidity because fear made you agile and nimble, but not in your world. In your world, fear got you killed. Joker was bewildered on the inside more than anything because not for a time were you afraid. You never met him and yet you joked with him like old friends and showed him respect for who he was. You were serious with your offer and it was something he had never experienced before. It was refreshing, to say the least.
You were truly becoming a puzzle.
