"--with a side of fries. Thank you," you said through the intercom and drove up to the next window to pay and receive your food.

"Joker's about to get interrogated by Gordon," Vincent informed from the passenger seat with your laptop in his lap.

"Sweet," you responded, swerving around to park in the lot to start eating.

Vincent handed you the laptop and you looked at the feed from the video camera hanging over the door that Vincent hacked in to. You took a bite of your food as you watched Joker sit in the dim room in a pair of handcuffs, giving you deja vu of the times you spent with him in a cell only months ago. You turned up the volume and saw Gordon walk in to the room.

"Evening, Commissioner," Joker greeted sarcastically.

Gordon sat in the chair across from him. "What have you done with Harvey Dent?"

"Me?" Joker asked in mock surprise and continued on.

You chuckled at the screen with Vincent as you devoured your food, until the lights turned on in the interrogation room and Batman appeared. You tensed when he slammed Joker's head on the table, then punched his hand.

"That is so illegal," you muttered in irritation. "He shouldn't be in the room."

"You really love Joker, don't you?"

You choked on your fries and turned your head toward Vincent. "Love? I don't know about that," you said.

Vincent flipped his hair from his eyes as he tore into his burger. "It's obvious. He loves you too."

You cleared your throat and shrugged. "He's one of a kind. It's like we're drawn to each other and chaos is our hobby," you reasoned.

"Love."

You rolled your eyes and went back to the screen to see Batman drag Joker over the table but Joker kept his smirk. You jumped in your seat when Batman slammed Joker into the wall and held him up against it.

"He's fine, (Y/N)," Vincent assured.

"That doesn't fucking help," you retorted, angrily sipping your drink.

Batman tossed Joker onto the table and wedged the metal chair under the door's handle. It only made your heart rate increase when Batman grabbed Joker and threw him into the mirror, causing it to crack and Joker to sluggishly fall to the ground. Batman punched Joker twice and your breathing was shallow as you had to sit back and watch it while Joker simply laughed.

"You have nothing to threaten me with! Nothing to do with all your strength," Joker taunted.

Batman stopped. "The woman--Dr. (L/N)."

Immediately, Joker frowned and a haunted and venomous expression overcame his features--one that would make anyone run away like a lion chasing a mouse. But it was gone nearly three seconds later and Joker snickered again.

"The thing about her is that she would kill you before you realized your mistake," he explained humorously.

Batman picked Joker up by the collar of his shirt.

"Don't worry; I'm going to tell you where they are. Both of them," Joker said, flicking his tongue. "That's the point. You'll have to choose."

You closed the laptop and stuffed the wrappers of the fast food into the empty bag before handing them to Vincent. You reversed out of the parking lot and headed for the warehouse to drop off Vincent so he could get everything set up. You dropped him off within ten minutes and drove to the police station to pick up your other half.

You heard the explosion from blocks away before you pulled up to the front of the building. You anxiously checked the time, and right on que, Joker walked out of the building with his purple coat on and dragging Lau in handcuffs beside him. You got out and opened the back door for Joker to push Lau in, then you instantaneously clung to Joker and gently pressed your lips to his, mindful of the injuries he may have acquired. You rushed back to get in the Camaro and sped off to the warehouse.

"Hello, Lau," you said darkly, shifting your eyes to the mirror to see his frightened face. "What's the matter? Looks like you've seen a ghost."

He didn't speak, so you continued.

"You know, Lau, that house you burned down was filled with my family's precious items, mementos, records, pictures, and whatever else. My life was there--the one I was meant to be a part of. But you took that, do you understand?" Lau nodded slowly. You smirked. "Good, because then you know the other reason why you're going to die."

You swerved into the warehouse and parked your car haphazardly in the middle of the garage. You and Joker got out and you snapped your fingers and gestured Vincent and Charlie over to take Lau to the special room that was prepared, also known as the basement. None of you wanted to hear his pleas during the night.

You walked upstairs with The Joker, and when you got to his bedroom, you took off his coat and hung it up as he began to undress.

"Take a shower and I'll get some ice," you said, heading to the door.

"For what?" he asked.

"Your face and whatever else. I know you're in pain," you answered and slipped out before he could deny it.

You went to the main room and pulled an ice pack from the freezer and told the henchmen to keep the volume down since you knew Joker wanted to relax because he hadn't slept in almost two days. You went back upstairs and Joker exited the bathroom fully dressed in pajamas and surprisingly without any make-up a couple minutes later. You smiled adoringly at him and laid on the mattress.

"Come here," you commanded, opening your arms with the ice pack in your hand.

Joker didn't object and laid down with his unbruised cheek resting against your chest and arms around your waist. You carefully rested the ice pack on his jaw and he exhaled through his nose.

"Tired?" you questioned.

"Hmm."

"Are you hurt anywhere else?"

"No," he murmured, then yawned.

"Are you lying?" you asked.

Joker reached down to pull a blanket over the two of you. "I wouldn't lie to you," he muttered.

"You're The Joker," you pointed out.

"Jack Napier to you, darling," he whispered before he completely drifted off to sleep.

You played with his hair and continued to press the ice pack to his cheek until it melted, then threw it in the trashcan. You flicked off the lamp and were plunged into darkness, enjoying the warmth of Joker on top of you.

As you closed your eyelids and blindly caressed his jawline with your fingertips, you wondered about Vincent's words and thought them to perhaps be true. You never held anyone, not even your family, as close as you've held Joker. He was a different story to all he ever met, but you got to know the sides of him others wouldn't believe existed. You didn't know what you would do if he died suddenly.

You did love him, there wasn't a doubt in the universe. It was heaven and hell at the same time, in the same world, and for the first time, you didn't care if you burned.
