Chapter 3: Promise

Cries, I hear cries everywhere. “Help me!”… “Someone save us”… I wonder if this dark world would have an end. I stand up and try to walk but every step I make, I always bump into something. I wish I could see even a single light…

*alarm rings*

I opened my eyes. I looked at the alarm clock and stop it from ringing.

        Yuichi: “Damn! It’s already 7am!!!”

I get up quickly and wear my uniform.

        Yuichi: (“I wonder if she got home safe. Damn, this is not the time to think about that”)

I rush down stairs. Then I saw my father watching the news on the TV.

        Dad: “Good morning Yuichi. You stayed up late again do you? Where have you been last night?”

He said that with a smile.

(Acting like a normal father to me eh? As if he’s not drunk all day and night.)

        Yuichi: “It doesn’t matter. I’ll be going now. Bye.”

        Dad: “Take care.”

 (Damn it! That’s why I wake up early every day. He’s like this every time we see each other. Always acting like he’s a good father.)

I felt a sharp pain on my chest. I hope I can save money fast and go somewhere. It doesn’t matter where, as long as I can get away from here.

        Yuichi: (“This is the first time I woke up late. What the heck did I do last night?”)

I suddenly remember what happened that night.

        (Ai: “Help me kill someone.”)

I remember how she looked at me saying those words. It seems like I’m looking at a mirror. Our eyes looks the same, the only difference is hers were covered by tears.

Series of flashbacks runs into mind…

        (Yuichi: “What the hell are you saying?!”)

        (Ai: “Help me kill my father’s mistress”)

Damn it. It seems like all the problems in this world are caused by irresponsible fathers.

        (Yuichi: “Wait! I promise to help you but could you calm down for a second?”)

        (Ai: O..okay..)

She walks away from the edge and sat on the ground.

        (Yuichi: “So.. what exactly happened?”)

        (Ai: *sniffs* m..my mo..ther is diagnosed with stage 3 cancer so father asked us to move here because he said that he can gain more money here for my mother’s treatment.)

        (Yuichi: “Then?”)

        (Ai: “We moved here and my mother’s treatment continued. He’s a good father. I know that he works really hard for us and gave everything that me and my mother needs”)

He seems to be a good father. Better father that mine.

        (Yuichi: “So how did you found out that your father had a mistress?”)

        (Ai: “He..He never told us anything from his new job. So I wonder where all the money came from. I followed him this afternoon. He went to a motel with a young lady. What would you think of that?!”)
