+The Silent Five+
~Chapter 3~
Nate's POV:
I don't like this. Don’t get me wrong it’s not that I don't like the idea of catching people running around pretending they're Robin Hood, but staking out an orphanage? Really?
We had only been on this case for a few days and we were already camping in trees, setting up cameras everywhere, waiting for some cloaked figures to show up supposedly with a large sum of money.
We're highly classified teens trained specifically for more dangerous and tactful cases for the government, not for petty robberies. Couldn’t the local cops handle this? How hard could this be?
“I believe we've got something, Take a look." Justin said handing the laptop to me. Two cloaked figures rounded the corner towards the back of the building.
"I can't believe we don't have any audio!" Dylan complained. "How are we supposed to know what their next move is when we can't even hear what they're saying?"
"I say we go in there and bust them now!" Damon was always looking for a good fight.
I rolled my eyes, “You can’t just barge in there and accuse someone without evidence doofus.”
"We need to stick to the plan, which would be easier if these stupid cameras worked." Dustin complained tinkering with the computer’s audio grumbling something about cheap systems and stupid technological people.
“Well, budget cuts were a little harsh to the police department this year.” Peter reasoned.
“Then why didn’t they just ask their local superheroes to loan them some money.” Damon grumbled.
“I dunno Damon why don’t you go ask them that?” Peter retorted.
“Well as much as watching you two argue is I’m going to go set up stake on one of the trees by the door to see if I can find any info and possibly a glimpse at a face.” Dylan spoke up grabbing one of the spare laptops and a head piece hopping out the back.
The other’s returned to whatever ’business’ they were tending to.
Violet's POV: Dawn was crouched in the nearby bushes looking around the corner leading to the back door. I waited behind a shipping crate for clearance; from her position she gave me a thumbs up. We made our way around to the back door. After a series of secret knocks Cara opened the door ushering us in quickly.
"I made sure all the kids were put to bed." For safety reasons Cara and her friend were the only two people in the orphanage who knew about us. She took Dawn and I to the laundry room where Michael was waiting bouncing nervously on the balls of his feet.
“Relax Michael we’ve done this plenty of times before, could practically call us professionals” I assured winking before pulling the money out.
"Listen there's a report out for you guys, I think it’d be good for y’all to lay low for a while." He said.
"No, we're alright for now. We can't just sit here on our butts and watch people suffer."
“They’re getting pretty serious about this, I heard from some lady in the store that they were sending out government agents.” Cara spoke up.
“Alright, if it’ll ease y’alls consciences we’ll be more careful in the jobs we pick.” I reasoned placing my hands on Michael’s shoulders. He gave a defeated sigh and I knew I had already won I patted him on the cheek smiling triumphantly.
