6 YEARS LATER...

"be careful, hannah!" i shouted. she didn't listen. she ran around the playground, giggling. her long hair flew back in the wind she made. she held a streamer in her hand, her fascination focused on the way it waved.

"oh, harry. she's 6. let her have some fun." my wife, cara, said to me. cara was beautiful. her hair was dark brown. her eyes were the color of chestnuts. her complexion was smooth. her smile could light up a dark room. she was everything i could ask for.

"i know. i just don't want her to hurt herself." i responded, watching my daughter closely. she was talking to a girl about her age. she handed the other girl her streamer.

"oh, and look! she's already learned sharing!" cara said, and laughed. i smiled.

"i'll be right back." i said, getting up from the bench and left the playground. the bathroom was somewhere around here.

i stopped in my tracks once i saw her.

azalia francis was holding a very small version of herself in her arms. the baby clapped his hands slowly, and azalia made a happy ah! face. she pecked the baby on the cheek and handed him to a man.

a man who kissed her delicately on the lips.

the family was walking by me slowly. azalia hadn't even seen me. she was just really immersed in communicating with her child. when she gave the baby a high five, i noticed  a ring on her middle finger. i smiled.

and as soon as i did that, she turned back to look at me, smiled, and winked.
