Chapter 1
Flynn
"Here you go," my best friend Jake said as he set a cup of coffee in front of me. I was still mad that he refused to give me discounts for him working here. Come on, I was his best friend. I deserved a discount.
"Thanks," I said. "Now about that discount...."
"You do realize that I got in trouble last time I gave you one, right?" Jake said. "My parents are paying for half my tuition so I really need this job to pay for the other half. And for books. And food because knowing me, I'll be sleeping in."
"Fair enough," I said before looking at another table. "Say, if I ask that pretty lady out, you think she'll say yes?"
Jake looked at the table I was looking at before sighing. "Really? She's never going to say yes."
"Don't go breaking my dreams," I said. "She's my soulmate."
"Yeah, I can tell you would think that," Jake said. "You've liked her for how many years? Four?"
I sighed. "And she unfortunately hasn't submitted to my charm. I'm likable, right? I mean, of course I am. You used to like me."
"I'm walking away form you now," Jake said as he walked away.
That jerk.
I picked up my coffee and walked to the other side of the cafe, sitting beside the most beautiful girl in the world. "Why, hello."
"Go away, Flynn," Lilly said. "I don't want to listen to you flirting with me. Again. Like you have been doing every day for the past four years."
"Because you're gorgeous," I said. "Come on, why else would you kiss my cheek four years ago?"
"Uh, because you technically saved our lives," Lilly said. "It was a one time thing. I'm never kissing you again."
"Aww...."
"I actually need some help with something at my house," Lilly said.
"Is it practicing kissing? Because I'll totally help with that."
"Okay, I don't need your help after all."
"No, I'll help with whatever it is. What is it anyway?"
"My laptop is busted," she said. "It won't turn on and I tried everything. Can you come over tonight and see if you can fix it?"
"What's in it for me?"
"The fact that I'm letting you in my house. You keep asking me and I wouldn't let you, but I'm letting you in now."
"....What about a kiss on the cheek?"
"I told you, that's never happening again."
"Then I'm not going to help."
Lilly snorted. "Yeah, right. You're never able to say no to me."
She was right there. Stupid Lilly for being so beautiful and for being my soulmate. I was never able to say no for her. Once, I even helped her bring her books to class and I ended up being late to my class and getting a lecture in front of the whole class.
It was worth it.
"Fine, I'll help."
"Thank you," Lilly said. "It's almost six now, so we can head over to my house and I can even order in some pizza."
