Quinn knew how the entire night would play out. She was sure that dinner would be painstakingly awkward for herself, Elena, and her father. Benn had watched Elena grow up and deal with grief that was almost impossible for the average teenage brain to process. How would he feel if his own daughter seemed like she didn't recognize it?
She admired Elena's graceful quietness, tan skin, and long dark brown hair. However, Quinn was ninety-nine percent positive that her feeling was not reciprocated in Elena's point of view. That thought brought all previous insecurity back and developed a wave of nausea in the pit of her stomach. How could someone so pretty and popular like Elena appeal to someone new, clumsy, and as average as Quinn?
The admiring brunette had only heard Caroline's one sided version of the uncomfortable situation between the two popular teenagers. Despite, the fact that her perky blonde friend was a great girl who was usually a ton of fun to be around, Quinn knew her story was quite bias. After all, it was inevitable. When anyone tells a story, regardless of what was and was not your fault, certain parts of your story were going to be altered to make you feel better. It was simple psychology.
The shy teenager anxiously shoved heaping spoonfuls of pasta in her mouth to avoid being directly spoken to. Jenna and Benn laughed loudly and Elena smiled politely making occasional commentary. Jeremy sat next to Quinn making sure to make pointed annoyed and disgusted faces as he ate his entire meal in record time. Earlier, the cynical boy had mentioned he wanted to go to a friends and his aunt had exasperatedly agreed after he finished dinner he could leave. Even though the siblings responsible adult had agreed, the elder sibling shot concerned glances at her brother all night. Meanwhile, Quinn hadn't uttered a noise in the past hour.
"So Quinn, have you toured the school yet?" Elena asked sincerely from next to her. Quinn nearly choked at the other girls mention of her name. "Me? Oh, uh, no. I just um got here like a few days ago." The more anxious girl of the two stuttered. "Oh, right. How are you liking Mystic Falls?" The polite brunette attempted to continue the conversation desperately.
"Yeah, Quinn? What do you think of a town the size of your old high school?" Jeremy snorted sarcastically.
"Unlike some people, I actually would like to be friends with someone new Jeremy." Elena rolled her eyes.
"Don't you have enough, Miss Popular? It's not like you even hang out with them." Jeremy sneered.
"Jeremy, enough!" Elena warned, her voice cold as ice.
"I like it here." Quinn pipped up quietly in attempts to ease the arguing. "It's small, but pretty. It's quite hot here though."
"I'm glad you're enjoying it. Mystic Falls happily welcomes you." Elena smiled warmly at Quintyn whilst making sure to give Jeremy a pointed glare.

"So, this is it. Built by Grayson's ancestors in the late 1800's." Jenna explained after giving Quinn a short tour.
"This place is really nice. I love how they were able to keep it going all these years." The new girl smiled.
"I know right." The obligatory owner smiled reflecting on the upper floor.
As the pair descended back down the staircase, the clumsy teenager unsurprisingly stumbled on something. She looked down expecting to see the wall or even her own foot. Instead she saw a light green leather bound journal engraved with a capital letter E. Assuming the possession was nothing considered her business quickly scooped it up off the floor and turned to face the other girl. "Oh, sorry, that's Elena's diary. I showed you where her room was right?" Instantly the strawberry blonde replied. The brunette hesitantly nodded. "Can you just drop it off to her please and thanks?" She asked and wordlessly turned away.
