C H A P T E R O N E - ROADTRIP
Scarlett's POV
It was hot. The sun was hot and beaming against my short sleeved shirt. At least I was able to get a suitable tan from this three hour road trip. The windows were down and the wind was blowing my hair around like crazy.
"Jack, please roll the window up." I say to him. We were taking turns driving. He would be driving for two hours and I for one. Since it was his hour, he was able to do whatever he'd like with the car, meaning turning the radio up to full blast.
If that wasn't bad enough, the songs were ones without any words. Jack called it "using your imagination". I called it boring.
The car was packed full with boxes stacking high. Hoping that they won't tip over and fall. And hoping that we taped the boxes up good enough so the things won't come tumbling out. After last night, I was worn out. But I couldn't sleep. I never did. I was worried and frustrated. I don't exactly know why, but I just was.
I woke up with bags under my eyes. Those things will be the death of me, that and bugs. I hate those things. Jack had gotten up earlier before me to get his boxes and car, then he came and got me at 8:00. We would arrive in Massachusetts at approximately 11:00.
Jack had already looked into some MA colleges. He got accepted into Boston University School of Medicine. And he will be starting the same day I am. We'll be an hour drive away from each other though, and he'd be the one to drive up to me since I don't have a car.
He already got a list of things to buy when he gets there, that's our number one priority once we reach MA. He also got a dorm room list. He's living with this Sam kid.
Jack turns the radio down just a hare bit, but he still leaves on the classical music. He focuses on the road ahead of him so he doesn't get in an accident.
"This is boring." I say to him. It was boring. I wasn't trying to be mean or anything, but we weren't even talking. "Let's do something." I suggested.
"Scarlett, we can't really do anything. I'm driving. I can't do anything with you." He says, winking at me when he said the last sentence. I flush, he was thinking of doing some inappropriate stuff.
"Jack! Come on, we can play 'I spy' or something." I say to him in a meaningful manner. I get it, I spy isn't the best or even the most fun game to play - but there's nothing else to do. "How about, you turn the radio on to something...better." I say to him turning the radio up louder and to a different channel.
Better songs come on and I start singing to the top of my voice.
"Have I ever told you, that you're a horrible singer." Jack says, insulting me a little bit. I always knew I wasn't the best singer, but I didn't like being told that. I keep my mouth shut for the remainder of the time until he asks me another question.
"Scarlett? Did I offend you? I'm sorry." He says, placing on of his hands on my lap. I accept his apology and move on.
"So what are you going to be studying?" I ask him, although I already know the answer.
"Medical stuff." He says, adding a smirk at the end.
_______________
"WE'RE HERE!" Jack yells at the top of his lungs as we read the 'Welcome to Massachusetts' sign on the interstate.
"Yes, but we still have a ways to go." I say to him. I didn't have a car, so we were going to go to Harvard first which wasn't far from the MA sign. It was Jack's 2nd hour.
I was going to rent a car once we go our separate ways to our two different colleges. I had hoped he had gotten into Harvard, but only certain people get that. After driving around for another 45 minutes, we come to the Harvard sign and drive into campus.
"This will be my home." I smile and whisper under my breath. It's even nicer looking in real life. I look to Jack who's smile has worn off of his face. He wasn't happy about dropping me off and leaving me.
We drive up to a parking area, and start unloading some of my boxes. I meet with the receptionist at the main hall. She gives me some information, my room number and key.
I walk up to the 2nd floor and find my number. Room 275. I unlock the door to find posters and luggage already there. I looked at my sheet, a girl named Anne was supposed to be my roommate.
Jack and I head back out and get some more boxes. Finally when we are both finished getting them all out, he gives me a surprised kiss.
"I'll miss you." He says to me leaving his lips from mine. He hugs me and grasps my hands not letting go. "Nothing will come between us while we're at different colleges. I promise you that. Can you promise me the same thing?"
"I will. I love you so much Jack! I don't want us being at different colleges to year us apart. Text me, send me a letter, come here, I'll come over there. Anything, I love you." I say one last time before hugging him and walking him out to the car.
"woot-woo" I hear a male voice whistle towards me as I was leaning over to kiss Jack one more time in his car.
"Scarlett..." He begins to say. But I don't let him. I kiss him again reassuring him that nothing, not even some smart perverted boy could come in between us.
"I love you." He said to me.
"I love you too. We already messed up once. Let's not do it again." I say to him as his car moves out of the Harvard campus and onto the streets. Meanwhile I walk back upstairs into my dorm room, to unpack my boxes and meet my roomate Anne.
