The sounds of the defences falling shook the building. The students huddled in small groups, talking in hushed whispers.
The woman strode purposefully to the centre of the clearing, her pointed hat resting slightly askew. Loudly and commandingly she instructed the Slytherins to go to the dungeons, where their common room was. The students shouted, many agreeing with here though quite a few protested this decision.
"She can't send us away!" a sixth year Slytherin exclaimed, struggling against the swarm of black, green and silver, "We need all we can to fight!"
Students all around them booed them, calling them Death Eaters and other things, attacking the students as they filed slowly out of the hall.
"Aiden!" A hand tugged at his sleeve, pulling him away from the others.
The girl dragged him into an unnoticed corner of the hall, checking to make sure they weren't noticed.
"What are you..." he began, spluttering to a stop as she quickly loosened her tie, pulling her robe of in one fluid motion.
"Amelia? What?" he exclaimed, stepping backwards, his eyes wide.
"Oh grow up," she sighed, "I know you won't be able to just sit there as the all this happens!" She gestured around them, "So take yours off!" she demanded, tossing her robes to him. Hers would be a bit big on him as she was taller but she knew that it wouldn't be noticed. The black haired youth blinked at her, his brown eyes shining determinedly. He quickly passed her his robes and the two of them pulled the other's robes on.
"What are you going to do? You'll be sent to the dungeons instead?"
"I know what I'm doing, just go and rejoin the others! You don't want to look suspicious!" She shoved him towards the crowd, watching him stand off to the side. Ow clad in the yellow and black of Hufflepuff. She couldn't believe that he was expected to just sit idly by as the battle raged on around them, after all he had more than enough reason to fight back, the Death Eaters had murdered his family only a year before.
She quickly hurried over to the Slytherins as the last few left the Great Hall, looking back briefly to give Aiden a quick thumbs up.

She stood in the common room, no one was talking and all was silent. The ornate bars had sealed them inside, moved from their dormancy after countless years, unable to be removed by even the strongest of magic. Through the large glass window she could see into the lake, schools of frightened creatures swam frantically through the water. She steeled her nerves, stepping up into a nearby chair.
"Um, excuse me..." she began weakly, clearing her throat she repeated herself, "Excuse me? Everyone can I have your attention please?"
The students turned to her, she felt suddenly very exposed standing there, all eyes were on her.
"I am sixth year Hufflepuff, Amelia Deschain and I have come here to tell you that you can fight! You can fight alongside your fellow students and drive the darkness from here!" She clenched her hands into tight fists, "You don't have to fight, but if you wish to then follow me! I know a way out of here, into the courtyard! You have two choices," she paused for dramatic effect, "You can either stay here or fight for our freedom!"
Not waiting for a reply, she strode off, through the crowd who had begun to mutter around her. She didn't look to see if anyone was following her and at first no one was, then one by one a large portion of the crowd followed her. Pausing in front of an old portrait she looked behind her before pulling it off the wall, placing it gently against the wall, apologising quietly to the disgruntled occupant of the frame. She knelt in front of the exposed opening in the wall.
"It will be a tight squeeze and you will have to crawl at one point, and for that I do apologise but this is the only way!"
She crawled into the wall, slowly leading the multiple crawling and crouching students. A heavy silence followed the people, broken only by the occasional explosion from beyond the school walls.
"How much longer?" a second year complained, his voice echoing through the tunnel. An older student shushed him quickly, reminding the child that they were sneaking away.
Fear prickled under her forced confident demeanour, not only for herself but for the swarm of students behind her, putting their faith in her even though they wouldn't have spare her a passing glance in a normal situation.
A dull light glowed ahead of the group, occasionally flashing with bright lights coming from spells.
"Is everybody ready? There is no chance to back away now, but we can wait a moment so you can collect yourself!" she called back, trying to be as quiet as possible. The roof began to rise, allowing her to steadily stand. She clenched her fists, striding purposefully towards the opening, extending an arm to signal to the others to stop, waiting until she knew it was safe.
Multiple students poured noiselessly out of the wall. Several students shed their robes, ties and scarves, much like the snake that signifies their house, removing the identifying colours so that they could blend into the crowd of fighting students. Spells thundered in the distance as they hurried solemnly to the battle, fear and determination crackled in the air around them, combining with the magical remnants of the spells resulting in their hair floating slightly around their heads. The Slytherins broke away from their group, joining the fighting masses, each motivated by their own personal fires.
"Did I miss much?" Amelia asked, sliding into the space beside Aiden, skilfully deflecting a spell from hitting her friend.
"You convinced them?" he exclaimed, impressed, blowing a tuft of hair from his eye.
She nodded, her short brown hair swishing dramatically, her dark brown eyes shining proudly. Stunning an approaching Death Eater, she turned to Aiden again,
"Of course, they didn't need much convincing!" She blocked a spell, firing one back, "The Slytherins who came all had their own reasons to fight, to potentially sacrifice themselves, even if it is just for the greater good!"
The air temperature began dropping rapidly, a dense fog rolled in as the shadowy, robes creatures floated through the air towards the people. Instinctively the friends pointed their wands at the approaching Dementors.
"Expecto Patronum!" they cried in unison.
An Augurey burst from her wand, accompanied by a mole, the silver creatures shone against the rapidly increasing darkness, expelling the growing despair in the pits of their stomach. Several other creatures appeared, driving away the Dementors as the other people around them fought on, screams of pain mingled with victory cries as the Battle of Hogwarts raged on.
