The bells on the door chime as a customer pushes it open, looking around curiously. Trailing behind him is a girl with crossed arms, who seems hesitant as she follows him inside. They both have neatly styled chocolate brown hair and sharp, attractive features. I wonder if they're twins.
The guy glances at me as he walks past the counter.
"Can I help you find anything?" I ask, straightening up.
He shrugs. "I'm just looking around. I've never been here before."
Smiling, I give him the run down of the shop, pointing to where CDs, records, and other things are.
"Thanks," he says, returning my smile. Damn, he has a good smile.
The girl with him gives me a weird look and then they wander off. I smirk to myself as they browse through some CDs. I've gotten looks like that before, most likely because of my dyed black hair, lip piercing, and tendency to wear dark clothes. I definitely stick out around here.
It doesn't bother me, though. I like the way I look. It feels right. A moment later, it's the guy who looks over at me this time, and when we lock eyes he quickly looks back at the CDs.
I sigh and straighten a pile of business cards to keep myself occupied. That guy has a really nice face. I'm not sure if he's my type, but I'm definitely not his. We are complete opposites, when it comes to style. I tend to like edgy guys, but something about him interests me.
It's not likely that he's gay, though. I feel like I'm the only one in this entire town.
"I don't see why these are so trendy again," says the girl. Glancing up, I see that they've moved over to the rows of vinyl records. "You could just download any of this stuff."
"You wouldn't get it, Clara." The guy pulls a record out and reads the back of it.
"Whatever, I'm bored. I'm going to the coffee shop." She rolls her eyes and struts out the door.
Yawning, I check my watch. Two more hours.
Eventually, he comes up to the counter with a few records and I start entering the prices into the register. "Find everything okay?"
He nods.
"Genesis?" I ask, smiling as I read the last record. "Nice. This is a great album."
"I haven't listened to this one yet," he explains. "Are you a fan?"
"Oh yeah," I say with a grin. "Your total is $21.40."
He pulls out his wallet and hands me some cash. "What's your favorite song?"
"Entangled." I answer.
"Really?" he asks, raising a brow.
"It's beautiful." I hand him his change and his bag.
He turns, ready to leave, then pauses. "Hey, where's the coffee shop?"
"On the corner. If you turn left after you go out the door, it's just at the end of the block."
"Thanks... I just moved here so I don't know where anything is yet."
"Oh, cool." I smile again. He probably doesn't know anyone either, so maybe this is my chance to make friends with a hot guy who likes my favorite band. That is, if he'd even want to hang out with someone like me. "So will you go to Pine Hills High School?"
"Yeah, I'm a junior."
"Me too. Hey, if you want someone to show you around, I'd be happy to."
He watches me for a moment. His eyes shine with interest but he seems hesitant. "Okay, sure."
