"Hurry up Luna, it's right over there!" Dameon yelled to me, jumping and running around excitedly.
"I'm coming, jeesh. It'll still be there in a minute." It was so hot outside I did't want to move. I just wanted to lay down in the river and take a nap. When I woke up this morning I was sweating so badly that my blankets were damp. Houndoom and chimchar seemed to like it fine enough, and Dameon was too excited to even notice the heat.
I lazily made my way over with houndoom to where Dameon was jumping and pointing to the entrance of a large battle dome. As we made our way inside we noticed that there were tons of people here, even though we decided to come early. Officer Jenny came over to us and said "Welcome to the battle festival! Please pick a number and make your around to find the person with the same number as you. This person will be your partner for the festival. Thank you!" She smiled and pushed a basket with hundreds of little strips of paper in it.
"Wait a minute!", Dameon said angerly, "I thought you got to pick who you're partner is! That's how they showed it on T.V.! And what are you doing here anyway? I thought you were back in Thunder town!"
"Well there's an officer Jenny in each town, just like there's a nurse Joy. All of us officer Jennys look the same because we're all related. We're not actually the same person. And I come here to help every year, to keep things organised. As for the number thing, this is the first year we tried it. We wanted to see if this would keep things more fair."
"Fair?"
"Yea, well some people have been training in a duo there whole lives, so it wouldn't be fair for them to be put together because they have a better chance of winning than two people that have just met."
"Oh.... Sorry Luna, I really thought we could do this thing together but I guess not." He looked so disappointed.
"It's okay," I say, "This way we have to make sure that we win, so we can battle each other in the last battle!" He seemed to perk up a bit, and he got a determined look on his face. "Yea! We're ganna face each other in the finals! Do your best Luna, 'cuz I wanna battle you!"
He reached his hand in the basket to get a number from the pacient officer Jenny, and then I did the same. "I got twenty seven." "I got forty two."
"Well, see ya Luna." He ran off to go look for his partner and I started walking around to find mine. It looked like everyone else had found there's and I still couldn't find mine. The festival was going to start soon, I have to look faster! I looked past the people whose age seemed to range from young to old. Wow, all kinds of people came.
Someone tapped on my shoulder and I looked to find a boy with blonde hair, who was looking down and fiddleing with his fingers. "A-are you number forty two?", he asked shyly.
I smiled and said "Yea, are you as well?"
He blushed a little and replied "Yes."
"Yay, I thought I was never going to find you! So whats your name?"
"Chris, and you?" Then his eyes seemed to widen a bit "I-is that's y-yours?", he stuttered out looking at houndoom.
"My names Luna, and yea that's just houndoom. He'll be nice to you if you're nice to him. Now c'mon, lets go look at the match-ups!"
I started walking to the giant board closest to where we were in the dome with Chris following close behind. '42 vs. 12, battlefield 3' was lit up. We moved walked over to the battlefield to find that our opponents were already there. "Took you long enough", sneers a girl with blond hair and a blue summer dress. The girl next to her had long black hair with a light pink bow and matching dress. "I thought you were ganna forfeit, you took so long!"
"You wish!", I sneered back.
We got in our places and a woman on the balcony yelled "Begin!" into her microphone.
"Go eevee!", yelled the girl in the blue, while the girl in the pink sent out pachirisu. "Go houndoom!" Houndoom jumped from my side to the field. I looked over at Chris as he sent out pikachu.
"Ok pikachu, use quick attack!"
"Eevee, counter with a quick attack of your own!"
"Pachirisu use charm!"
"Houndoom use flamethrower!"
Pikachu and eevee collided together and bounced back, glaring at each other. Houndoom was faster than pachirisu and hit it, but his aim was off and pachirisu was only singed.
"Pikachu, use spark!"
"Eevee, use helping hand"
"Pachirisu, use spark on pikachu!"
"Houndoom, use smoke screen!"
Even with their limited vision, the two electric pokemon still managed to hit each other with a 'Boom!' There was a bright light and as the smoke screen cleared away, I could make out them out, both looking weak and ready to give up. "Hang in there pikachu, you can do it I know you can!", yelled Chris. "Use iron tail, pikachu!"
"Pachirisu use....huh? Pachirisu no!" The girl ran to get her fainted pokemon. "Just look what you did to my cute little pokemon!", she cried and picked up pachirisu and brought her over to the sidelines. 'I'm in trouble now...', thought eevee.
The iron tail hit eevee and she fainted. We won! I can't believe it we actually won! And this was my first battle, too! I high fived chris and we went to go see nurse Joy to make sure our pokemon were okay. After that we went back to the giant board to see who we were up against next. I just hope that we do as well this time as we did last time!
