-Back at the lab sometime later-
I groggily blinked my eyes, trying to slowly move my body. I was dizzy and everything was blurry, and my body was heavy and hard to move. As i awoke i started to remember what had happened. Something about a growling monster? Perhaps it was just a dream... I had never heard of such a thing before, truly! Just then I heard a human talking and shot up into a sitting position and looked around. Spotting the human man from my dream I slowly got up from the hard metal hospital table i was laying on, hoping he wouldn't notice i was awake until i was gone. He must have captured me, i wonder what he wants, I thought as i slowly made my way to a place that looked like a hole in the wall. Just then the man turned around to see me.
"Ah, you're awake!" he exclaimed as he walked over to me. "Now don't be in such a haste to leave, you've just barely got here!"
This mans large, booming voice frightened me. I must have made this obvious for next he said, in a more gentle manner, "No need to be afraid, dear. There is nothing here to harm you. I wish to help you, but first i shall ask you're name as that is the polite thing to do, and I shall bestow upon you my name as well. I, dear child, am Professor Jared, and i study pokemon." At this my ears seem to twitch. So he studies us? Is that why he captured me? To study? "And," he continued, "what is your name, dear?"
My name? pokemon do not have names amongst themselves like the humans do, for there is no need. We simply know who we are, be it by scent or some other inner knowing. Humans must be stupid, to have to have such a thing as an individual name to tell one another apart. As I opened my mouth to tell him my conclusions on the subject I found that, to my surprise, I didn't know how to communicate this to him. I had absolutely no idea how to say to this human man, Professor Jared as he calls himself, what I have to say. As a pokemon, I can understand what I am told by both humans and other pokemon, but I do not know how to make the humans understand what I wish to say in return, for i do not know what the words are in human. Pokemon is easy enough to understand, so maybe I shall try to make him understand through repetition.
"Tell me", I tried to say. I want him to give me a name, for I have none of my own.
"No, tell ME. Tell me your name, please", comes his reply.
To this i become frustrated, for he clearly does not understand. I make a small growl in the back of my throat to communicate my frustrations, but alas, he is still seeming ignorant to my wishes.
"No," I try again "won't tell name".
To this he seems intrigued and says "Well why not?"
I merely shake my head. "Well this is getting us no where", he stupidly exclaims. Professors are supposed to be smart, yes? Well i don't think he's a very good one.
My ear twitches to the door where I hear someone enter. It's a Growlithe!
"Hello" comes his his gruff greeting.
"Hello" is my cheerful reply. At that he walks over to me and I stroke the top of his head. He wags his tail. The professor now seems to notice his entrance and calls out a greeting before going back to studying me. Me and Growlithe start to have a conversation about my situation, and he reassures me that though he seems a bit sluggish in the head, the professor is indeed a kind human.
After a minute or two of our chatter the professor, seemingly to himself, says "She can talk to the pokemon, is it that she can't speak english?" To this I give a nod, indicateing to him that that was indeed the case. "Ah, well then you should learn!" I smiled and nodded my head. I wanted to learn how to communicate with the kind Professor Jared.
"We shall begin immediately then".
-Later-
After he taught me a few simple words and phrases of english such as 'hello', 'goodbye', and how are you', along with many more of course, it was decided that I needed a human name. He suggested a few, but I didn't really like any of them. Until he suggested Luna, and told me that it meant moon.
I love the moon. It was beautiful, and it spoke to me in ways the pokemon couldn't. It comforted me when i was feeling confused as to why i was different from the other pokemon, and things like that. Anytime I was sad, I could always count on the moon to be there for me. Sometimes I feel like I could just lay there and watch it all night. So i nodded my head at Luna, I loved the name.
I was smileing and wagging my tail behind me, I was so happy about the name. The professor smiled and pat my head. "I'm glad you like it", he said, "now I would like to take a sample of your unique DNA, if you don't mind."
Sure I trusted the professor well enough, but what could he need that for?
"I'll just need a sample of your hair, of course. nothing too drastic."
Since he's done nothing to be wary of, I guess it wouldn't hurt. Taking a lock of my hair, I slid a sharp point of my nail along it width-wise, severing it from the rest of my medium length pure white hair. I handed this to him, earning a 'thank you', as he put it in a jar. "I will take a look at it later", he says. Then, like the daft professor he is, he dropped the jar, and just as it was about to hit the floor i stopped it with my mind. "Interesting", mutters the professor. "Sorry about that, I can be clumsy at times", he smiles with his eyes closed and a hand rubbing the back of his head. He picks the jar back up and carefully sets it on the table. Thankfully, it doesn't fall again.
"Have you always been able to do that?" he asks. "Yes", is my simple response. At this he turns and writes something down in his notebook. He's been doing that all day, I should look and see what he's writing sometime. As if he could hear my thoughts, he says "Excuse me a minute while I get you something to eat. Would you like some berries?" I nod and smile. I like berries, especially the sweet ones.
When he leaves I decide to take the opportunity and look at his notebook. I can read as well, odd yes? I sneak over to it stealthily, sure that he wont be gone long, and quickly open to the page with 'Luna' scrawled across the top. I sigh in disappointment, reading what seems to be just notes about how I did today, with things like 'is a fast learner', and 'seems to be able to use telekinesis'. I thought it would be something interesting, not just things I already know, I thought as I sat back down, my ears slightly droopy.
Just then the professor comes back in. "Here you are!", he says smileing brightly. He brings me some berries in a basket and I eat them happliy. They taste so good! "I'm glad you like them", he tells me when i've eaten my fill. He hands me a sort of flimsy dress and tells me it's to sleep in. I go in the bathroom and change from the harsh and dirty cloths I was wearing before. My cloths were soft and sturdy, though they sure looked tough and itchy. Weedle and other insect pokemon helped me to make them when I was cold, and I got used to them and started to wear them all the time.
When I was done the professor brought me to a room that seemed nice and cosey, with it's white bed and a chair in the corner, an alarm clock on a stand next to the bed. "This is where you will sleep", says Professor Jared. I thank him and say goodnight, then lay down in the bed. Covering with the soft blanket, I lay my head on the pillow and think about the day. I miss my pokemon friends, but I think it will be okay here. The professor seems so nice, and I get to learn things. I soon fall asleep.
