So I am planning on submitting King's Court to the #breakthecliches hashtag. Yes, it is a real thing. It's an account where people are encouraged to "break the cliches" and write an originaly story. I'm pretty sure you have encountered stories featuring perfect characters with perfect features and no flaws...how original, right? *sarcasm* There is a name for these types of characters. They are called Mary Sues. Nobody wants to read about perfect characters because nobody is perfect. We all have imperfections. One thing we may hate about ourselves may be someone's favorite thing about us.
There's the everpresent storyline where a girl has a crush on the sexiest beast in the universe...but the guy is dating a bitchy cheerleader. Then he dumps the cheerleader for the MC because he starts to see how cute and perfect for him she is and they lived happily ever after. There's also the bad boy cliche, which seriously needs to go away. The bad boy tends to have some deep dark secrets that the girl uncovers and yadayadayada.
Bullshit! It's the same story every time. We need to be more original, folks. We also need to be real here. And by real, I mean have characters who are relatable to some degree.
This is one of the reasons why I decided to write King's Court. I want to create original stories with a powerful message, stories where readers can get sucked in to another setting and have them rooting for the protagonist. Stories that inspire people to follow their dreams. Words are powerful. Use them wisely.
@BreakTheCliches this is the profile I am talking about. I honestly think this is a genius idea.
