Sing It Loud is the working title of my movie/TV show franchise about a pop star with a promising career. For this sneak peek, I will be talking about some of the characters featured in the series.
Ariana Juarez
Ariana is 18 years old at the start of the movie. Ariana is insecure and worries about whether people will like her music. On the bright side, she is ambitious and assertive. At the start of the series, Ariana keeps her songwriting hobby a secret. When her friend Joseph pokes his nose inside her songwriting notebook, he is impressed by what he reads and encourages her to pursue her dream of being a pop star.
I know she shares her name with Ariana Grande, one of the biggest pop stars on the planet. Believe me, this is all a coincidence. I stumbled upon the name Aryana on a baby naming website. I thought to myself, 'Hey, this is a cute name. Let's change it up a bit to make it more recognizable'. So there, we have Ariana Juarez.
Musically, Ariana is an alto. I imagine her having proper singing technique, which some popular singers lack. I imagine her singing voice to be similar to that of Toni Braxton (look up Un-Break My Heart). I want to make her different from Ariana Grande, who is a soprano. Of course, they both have some similarities. Both like wearing heels and extensions (for different reasons), for example.
Tara Brooks
Tara Brooks was originally featured in Ruby Ring. Tara is Ariana's friend who is 19 at the start of the movie. She serves as a foil to Ariana's insecurity and Camilla's aggressiveness. Tara's character arc has happened by the time the series starts, so she is mostly a flat character. Nonetheless, she acts as moral support for Ariana, hence why she is a part of Ariana's posse.
Tara is more of a rapper than a singer. I want pop to be the main genre featured in this series since a good number of teenage girls listen to pop. However, I also want to integrate other genres into the mix, hence why I made Tara more of a rapper. That's not the only reason I made her more of a rapper, though. Most rappers are African American. Tara is Caucasian. Honestly, I can't think of any white rapper other than Eminem and G-Eazy (I don't listen to a lot of rap, forgive me). I'm all for breaking stereotypes, which is why Tara is the way she is.
Joseph Perry
We will be seeing a younger Joseph Perry from Agent Jane Doe. This version of him is very different from the adult Joseph we see in Agent Jane Doe. Joseph is nosy and can be a little sassy. However, beneath all that, he is a caring kid. It's no surprise that he's gay. I wanted to try writing a character that's gay, hence why I decided to include Joseph in Ariana's posse.
Aside from having a great singing voice, I envisioned Joseph to be a great dancer (a la Britney Spears). He also would be a tenor who happens to have a wide range (see Dimash Kudaibergen, IDK what voice type he is though). He also would be a teen heartthrob with lots of female fans who would do anything for him. Think about it. Celebs like Justin Bieber have tons of female friends. Bieber also happens to be attractive.
Joseph didn't have an ideal childhood. Basically, his character arc is an underdog story. I envision him being successful one day and being like 'Who's on top now, motherfuckers?' to the people that treated him horribly. I made things this way because I want to show that being mean will not get anybody anywhere. It's a tenet I hold dear to my heart.
Camilla Heath
This is the same Camilla featured in Ruby Ring. In this series, Camilla is a reformed bully who strives to be a better person. She is a flat character like Tara. She can be a bit aggressive at times, which sometimes gets her wrapped up in things that could've been avoided. She also serves as a guide to Ariana by helping her navigate celebrity life.
Camilla would be a soprano. I imagine her singing risqué songs (Work from Home by Fifth Harmony, for example). Camilla would also be able to play the piano and guitar, which is a great combination. She sometimes accompanies Ariana during her songs and helps compose the music to her lyrics.
Gale Heath
Gale is the father of Camilla. He is Ariana's music producer. He also serves as a father figure to Ariana (there are two, actually). Like his daughter, he is a flat character His main purpose is to be a wise Obi-Wan Kenobi-esque character to Ariana and her friends. He is calm and collected, much different from Camilla, who is a bit abrasive and stubborn.
Gale is not really a singer, but rather a composer. I imagine him being a bass singing songs like Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. Other than that, I can't talk too much about Gale so I don't spoil the story for you.
Tell me: who's the most interesting out of these five characters based off these descriptions?
