HEARTBEAT.
viii. interview with jimmy fallon.
. . .Iris's eyes became saucers as they fell upon the opening door of her cell. Two guards strolled their way into the small room, one of them being Commander Callaghan; the same guard whom showed up everyday with their daily meals. The other being an unfamiliar blonde female with the nastiest grimace both criminals had ever saw. The laminated name tag on her uniform reading Blaire.
"Prisoner five-seven-four, please turn and face the wall," Callaghan demanded, his voice firm and sharp.
She blinked, looking to the man in front of her with pleading eyes. The blonde-haired officer gave a very subtle nod as if telling her to trust him and to follow his orders. His eyes almost seemed like they were filled with remorse. Like he was guilty about what was going to happen next. What was going to happen next?
"Am I being floated?" She questioned, her voice weak and hoarse. Her dark eyes had began pooling up with hope-shattering tears.
The guard took a small step closer, voicing a small and quiet sentence. "Please, just face the wall."
Iris glanced to her left, looking to Murphy of whom had stood up beside her. He gazed back, confusion swimming in his eyes as well. But there was something else too. It was an emotion she had only saw once from him; the night she explained why her father had been arrested.
It was sympathy. He gave her look of sympathy.
"Callaghan, if she doesn't cooperate, we're going to have to use option two," the blonde female guard spoke up, her voice gruff and hostile, which caught Iris's attention. She quickly shot her vision towards the woman, noticing for the first time that she held a small, metal box.
"If I'm going to die, tell me," Iris demanded, trying to sound tough. The truth behind the matter being that she was anything but tough. "Am I going to die?"
"She asked a question," Murphy stated, raising his voice to a pitch full of rage and power. "Answer the damn question."
"I'm afraid we can't answer that," the woman replied, a cold expression on her face as she looked from Iris to John. "Both of you, turn around, now."
The screen soon faded to black, the teasing sneak-peak of The 100's pilot episode disappearing. Emery couldn't help but let a smile form on her pink lips as the crowd started clapping, excited hollers leaving their mouths. She felt accomplished, and loved for her work, even though the show had yet to be released.
Jimmy Fallon turned towards the young adult, a slight nod to his head. "So, Emery, The 100 is one of the new projects you've been filming since your departure from The Vampire Diaries. How does it feel to be on the screens again? Does it - does it feel any different, or are there any similarities between the two shows?"
"Oh, gosh, it - it feels absolutely amazing to be acting again." Emery sighed, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. "The Vampire Diaries was such an amazing experience throughout all the years, I adore the show and the entire cast so much. I loved filming it and getting to meet great friends, I definitely miss everyone a lot, but it was time for a change. And I-I think The 100 is definitely a change. The 100, is. . . is quite different, in a sense, from all of the other sort of drama series on TV platform these days. We're almost halfway through filming the first season and just the, like, feel of it all seems rather unique and - and unlike anything I've ever really done before."
"Oh, you've already gotten to the halfway mark?"
"Yeah! Yeah, like I said to one of my costars, Bob Morley, it's like the time has just gone. I guess what they say is true, time flies when you're having fun." Emery let out a small laugh, looking to Jimmy whose eyebrows were raised in amusement.
"Just one of your costars, that's all Bob Morley is?" Jimmy questioned her, causing Emery's cheeks to flush a light scarlet. "I've been, uh, following you on social media, Instagram, and it looks like you two have gotten pretty close over the weeks."
"Yes, he's grown to be one of my closest friends, along with the rest of the cast. And that's all he is to me, a costar who also happens to be one of my best friends. And if you've really been following up on my Instagram, then you have most definitely seen our daily banters."
"Just friends, got it." Jimmy chuckled, shaking his head in a joking manner. "You're character, Iris, is she a possible love interest for Bob's character, Bellamy?"
Emery pursed her lips, "I mean, both of those character are almost polar opposites. Just their - their thoughts and motives and overall personalities are just, uh, leading towards the opposite ways. I'm not allowed to say much, or to give any spoilers, thank my boss for that. But there is one thing I can say, Iris's character development will, sort of, either push her away from her friends, Rosalie and Kol—who's played by my good friends Skylar Anderson and Tyler Wilson—and towards Bellamy, or vice versa. Trust me, this series is filled with drama."
"Oooh," Jimmy laughed. "So Iris and Bellamy could potentially be a, thing? Even if, like you said before, they have different personalities?"
"A lot happens in the first season, a lot, and I mean a lot, of obstacles get in the way of Iris and her old relationships and with her friends and her family and her enemies. She ultimately has to fight with herself, and with her friends, and all the conflict within her head and with everything going on around her, to just ensure her survival on the ground and to - to make sure her friends are safe." Emery explained, motioning her hands around. "She has to deal with so much, and maybe Bellamy is just there for her. Maybe after everything, Iris and Bellamy can have something other than friendship. Or, Iris could end up with Kol or with Murphy. Who really knows at this point?"
"Well, whoever Iris is happy with matters the most, right?" Jimmy nodded along with Emery. "Thanks for being here, again. Don't forget to tune into The 100 series premiere in just a couple of weeks, and everyone give it up for Emery Dunbar!"
Emery lifted her arm in the air, waving to the crowd, before she turned to Jimmy and engulfed him in a hug. Bob was right, one simple interview wasn't so hard after all.
