Chapter 1

Lily

I heard my alarm clock going off. I sighed and shut it off. I threw the blankets off and got up. I dug through my meager amount of clothes, trying to find an outfit. I ended up choosing skinny jeans and my only Dan and Phil shirt. It said the cat whiskers come from within. I didn't care if the other girls in the orphanage made fun of me for wearing it. They're my favorite YouTubers, even though I suspect they might be gay.

Suddenly, Eliza, my roommate and best friend, burst in.

"Lily, Ms. Raegan said people are here to adopt! Come on!" she said excitedly.

"I'm coming, Eliza!" I said.

I threw on a pair of sandals. Eliza grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the relatively small main gathering room. I noticed only the girls were here and not the boys. Not unusual.

We found our place. We talked about random things. I noticed the girls who bully me for watching Dan and Phil approaching. Crap, I forgot about the shirt I was wearing! They sniggered.

"Still watch them, lesbian?" the girl with blond hair - I think her name is Lori - said.

"I do, and I'm not a lesbian," I shot back.

"Yeah, right," the girl with black hair - Ash - said.

"Hey, don't be treating my friend like that!" Eliza snapped at them. "Who cares if she's different?!"

"We do," the girl with flaming red hair - Jaz - said.

Ash pushed me down. They laughed and walked away. Eliza helped me up.

"Thanks, Eliza," I said.

"No problem, Lily. Anything for a friend," she replied, happily smiling. "Besides, just because you watch a gay YouTuber doesn't mean you're gay as well. That's stupid!"

"I agree."

Ms. Raegan, the orphanage head, came in and managed to silence the entire room. I have never been able to understand how she does it.

"Girls, two people are here to adopt a girl. More specifically, one between 12 and 14." Girls not in that age range leave. Me and Eliza don't since we're both 13. "Their names are Dan Howell and Phil Lester." What?! What's going on?!

Eliza leans over and whispers, "No way that's them."

"It has to be!" I whispered back.

"I can't believe it."

I look up and see Ms. Raegan talking to Dan and Phil. I'm still surprised I haven't fangirled yet. Then again, I would get in trouble if I did. Suddenly, I notice Dan pointing at me. I pretend I didn't notice and talk to Eliza.

"Eliza, he pointed at me!"

"What?!"

"Yeah! It's probably because of my shirt."

"True."

"Lily!" Ms. Raegan calls sharply. "Come here!"

I nervously walk up to her.

"What is it, Ms. Raegan?" I ask.

"Sweetie, you're being adopted today. Go pack your things."

I start to walk away, but stop, as I just remembered Eliza. I turn around.

"Ms. Raegan, may Eliza help?"

"Sure."

I get Eliza and drag her to our room. I grab a pillow and scream into that.

"Lily, you okay?" Eliza asks as she pulls the pillow away from my face.

"Dan and Phil are adopting me!" I reply.

"What?! Are you serious?!"

"Yes! Help me pack!"

She helps me pack. I realized I don't have my llama hat.

"Eliza, where's my llama hat?"

She put something on my head. "On your head."

I laugh. "Now it is!"

Dan

While the head of the orphanage - Ms. Raegan I think her name is - was talking to us about something, I noticed a girl with purple hair wearing a Dan and Phil shirt.

"Can we adopt her?" I interrupt, pointing at the girl. The girl acts like she didn't notice I was pointing at her.

Ms. Raegan shrugs. "Sure."

Phil looks at me weird. "What? She's wearing a Dan and Phil shirt," I said. Okay, it felt weird saying Dan and Phil.

"Oh. I didn't realize that," he replies.

Lily

I'm just about to walk out of the room when Eliza stops me.

"You forgot something," she said.

"And what's that?"

"Remember our best case scenarios we wrote?"

"Oh yeah."

"Well, one involved cat whiskers if adopted by Dan and Phil."

"Oh yeah! Then get our 'best case scenario' Expo marker!"

She giggled and grabbed it. She drew mine on my face and I drew hers. We walked down together. Dan and Phil were talking to Ms. Raegan. Dan saw us and started laughing. Phil started laughing as well. Me and Eliza smiled. Ms. Raegan saw us and rolled her eyes.

"The cat whiskers come from within!" Dan and Phil said in unison, causing me and Eliza to giggle like crazy. Ms. Raegan just walked away.

I said an emotional goodbye to Eliza and gave her a final hug. I walked out with Dan and Phil, hopefully leaving the orphanage for good.
