"After being in a coma for three days, Arthur Colgan was finally declared dead on 16th January 2017. He suffered multiple head injuries and a gunshot to his side. His cause of death? Physical abuse. His father is currently locked up in state prison on account of 1st degree murder. To most people, Arthur was a funny, loyal and charismatic person. But most importantly, he was my best friend. He cheered me on during my darkest days, picked me up when I fell down in life, and overall, taught me how to become the person I am today. I am here today not to grief his death, but to celebrate his life on earth, to say that, he touched my life, and-"
I stop.
Deep breaths.
"-and that his life here on earth, was not in vain."
I step down from the pulpit and walk out of the funeral service. I breathe in the fresh air outside, ignoring the tears stinging my eyes.
This is nothing more but a new chapter in my life.
I smile to myself as Arthur's open coffin slowly vanishes in the background.
